According to asphaltandrubber.com there will be three versions and two versions of the 848. The 1198 is discontinued. ABS for the 1199 is optional (not sure of price) 848 EVO ($13995) 848 EVO Corse ($14995, good deal as upgrading the base bike would cost much more than $1000) 1199 Panigale ($17999) 1199 Panigale S ($22995) 1199 Panigale S Tricolor ($27995) Dead giveaway for the S variants is the 3/9 wheels (three spokes branch into three each) 848 EVO Corse http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bikes/2012-ducati-superbike-848-corse-special-edition/
I like it. Even better, is the performance potential. Remember the ugly 999 - the replacement for the beautiful 998 ? Good job with the design and technical features. The 848 EVO looks like a bargain. I would also like to see what KTM, is going to offer in 2012.
I thought a bike could never look any better after the Ducati 916-996-998. Then came along the MV AGUSTA F4. I re-thought that a bike could never look any better than the Agusta F4. Then came along the Panigale. Given there's no more room for any aesthetics improvement, now I KNOW that a bike will never look any better than that!
Here's a few pics, some that I didn't see after a quick peek at the above site: http://thethrottle.thechive.com/2011/11/07/yes-i-would-die-but-i-still-want-the-1199-panigale-20-hq-photos/ Sample (the last is my favorite )... Saw my first one in the flesh today at the dealer. Base model non-ABS. Holy ^&%$ is all I have to say. Having been around Ducatis for 20 years and owned them for 16 years now, I can say the Panigale is to me the most desirable bike made today without question. The 851 proved a twin could compete with 750 fours, the 916 set a new standard for styling that "inspired" many other manufacturer's styling for a decade or more. The 1098R showed the best from Japan and BMW that they could put restrictors and weight penalties all they like on Ducati, and even in today's electronic aided racebike age a big twin can still be the fastest way around the track. But the 1199 represents even more to Ducati and sportbikes in general IMO. It truly sets the standard and other companies are going to have put out a very good product if they even want to compare for the sheer inventiveness of the design much less performance. It is so tiny. Every little piece looks like industrial jewelry. It almost doesn't seem real. And if any motorcycle is worth a starting price of nearly $20k before options, it is this one. Nothing else is in the same league in my book.
I saw one at my local Ducati dealer a couple of weeks ago too. The holy grail of bikes for me has been the 916, 996, 998, 748 series, but the 1199 is really something else. I was immediately in love. Out of everything on the showroom floor, nothing looked as mean, sleek, or just plain awesome as the 1199. I will own one. Mark
Got one for a client. A shop party was in order. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
my buddy just bought the tri-colore ohlins suspended version. he has nearly a hundred bikes or race and street variety. He is very impressed with his new duke. i have seen it in the flesh and my only criticism is styling. I am not crazy about the rear wheel sticking out beyond the tail section. I wish the tail section was a bit more substantial. otherwise, i am a fan!
