"At the end of the day..." Drivers say it, team principals say it, drivers say it again, commentators say it, ex-drivers say it, GP2 drivers say it and Eddie Jordan says it... whatever he is... Anyone else notice that, at the end of the day, we're hearing this particular phrase too often? I blame Ferrari and Alonso for it.
At the end of the day, I'd say it's the "most commonly heard phrase in SPORTS".... There you have it Jedi
"It is what it is..." This is the American version of sport-related overused phrase I personally like this phrase because it's about accepting the reality of a situation. Frank
Today it was Hobbs on Speed, "Look at those clouds, but can't figure out whether they're coming or going!" Alex
YES! I was thinking the same thing today (and I think yesterday as well). He must have said it a dozen times.
How about a few races back when V suggested that the smart teams could run full wets in the dry during Q to save their tyers. And they pay him to say these things?
Yikes... at the end of the day I'll stick with the Beeb for my races, sounds like the Speed crew have gotten worse, as amazing as that sounds...
It isn't the most used but during qualifying I herd the one guy on speed say something in reference to a Kubica qualifying lap, "We will have to see if he can make this one stick. Or stickski in his native toungue." I had to lol on that one.
When he suggested that, I thought, "this guy is on a huge cable network and has covered racing for how many years? But he didn't really just suggest rain tires on a dry track, did he?" Then I rewound the DVR just to make sure he really did say it. Couldn't believe it. Alex
nah.... the MOST commonly used phrase .... always at the very beginning of any talk, comment or answer to a question...especially the drivers... some how they seem to be reffering to some thing they said previously, but the odd thing is that they never said anything before their answer/reply.... it's............... yah, I mean......... JD
I've said before that Varsha is an incompetent cretin who has no business commentating F1 when he clearly knows NOTHING about the sport. Today, after Barrichello punted Alonso off track, they were talking about the stewards saying it will be investigated after the race. Hobbs and Matchett said the stewards like to hear from the drivers in cases like this, especially when there were extenuating circumstances like today (lots of water on track) before they consider handing out a penalty. Varsha says "they have over 35 laps to do it, come on stewards, don't go changing the race results AGAIN". How would they be changing the results, Varsha, you ******* oaf? Barrichello crashed out, and Alonso certainly wouldn't be the one to get penalized since he was the victim. How do you figure they can change results... from a DNF to, what, exactly? The guy is an absolute moron. Stick to narrating Barret Jackson you imbecile.
Imagine . . . If John Madden were an F1 Commentator . . . and Artiste. What would he say? What would he sketch?
I think he would be saying "BOOM" a lot I somehow don't see certain drivers making the All-Madden team Frank
On the Varsha note: I guess my problem with Varsha is that he just doesn't seem to learn. He's commentated the sport for how damn long? It seems like he'd pick up a bit more than us schmucks - but he continues to impress with his drivel. Is he just not that intelligent?
Almost single handedly he drove me away from SpeedTV, I haven't watched the channel in a couple years. You'd be amazed at how much more variety I have in my motorsport viewing choices once I turned to the interweb for my racing needs. Thanks Varsha!
I'm not sure the BBC feed is that much better? Matchett is 100% the best commentator for F1 I believe. Better than Murray/Brundle/etc. Anyways, Varsha at least provides some comedy.
"Look, that one car passed the other one!" Oh, wait, you said the most commonly heard phrase. My bad!
At least with the Beeb crew I don't feel like I'm bleeding IQ points. I could do with Ted Kravitz moving from the pits to the booth alongside Martin. Leggard doesn't get that Murray wasn't yelling and we forgave his mistakes because he was Murray. You're not Murray, Jon, and use your inside voice please... ...and just once I want to see that woman reporter (is she Italian... Spanish?) punch Martin in the mouth when he shoves his way past her for an interview with a driver shes been waiting 10 minutes for. "I'm the BBC, love" he said to her once, the cheek! It is lamentable that you just can't hire a new Murray Walker and a new James Hunt. That was the perfect commentating team. Murray hovering near the ceiling, while James keeps him connected to the Earth from down in his hole in the floor. They were like Peanut Butter and Chocolate, an empty track and an F-40, Jessica Alba and nudity. Things that are fine by themselves, but put them together and magical things happen.
Varsha has a 50-50 chance of spotting a driver but seems to get it WRONG the vast majority of the time. He needs a spotter. It is nice of David Hobbs to correct him EVERY TIME. Please note Hobbs is a senile old man but way ahead of Varsha. I wonder if this is an intentional comedy routine. It has gotten so bad that my first reaction is his commentary is wrong. So...what's the point??? Anybody can be wrong. I don't get it. Perhaps he is married to the bosses daughter. LOL
