The Fiat? :)
Me too? thanks TBH Simon, just a kinda of jealousness here.......remember my Countach/Diablo search? I´m still driving the testarossa and have had no luck with the Countach and the already sold Diablo But: A bit of what you fancy does you good! Congrats, YOU did it and its a real rare bird on the streets. .....please dont use it for the Tuscany drive!!!! We know its a killer (Kurvenkratzer) and we get lost with our big toys. Ton, no way for us (512TR, testa) to keep up with him (SZ) on country roads!
Yeah, Wolfgang, the Countach was a pity. I looked at 3 cars. I wanted an LP400S, with the low roof, but they are even rarer than an SZ. The cars I looked at were in bad condition. Even so, I came very close to buying the green one.
A green Countach eh? With a black 328 and a SZ in no matter what color (they only came in red, right), your taste in cars is admirable! You do keep the 328, right??
Congrats Simon! The SZ may very well be my fave Alfa of all time despite it's...erm....unusual styling. Heck, that styling is what I really dig about it. Plus it's red so how could ya go wrong. -Ben
It was VERY VERY green The SZ (and RZ) came in red, black or yellow only (IIRC) and always with the grey roof. There are a few dark green ones knocking around, but I believe they are repainted. Yes the 328 is staying, I'm in the middle of a fairly major engine overhaul, so the SZ will be my main driver for the next month or 2.
Congrats Simon!!! I love those SZ's!!! I always hear people rave about the handling so it must be true!! Looking forward to see some more pics of it and maybe see it in real life sometime!! Have fun with it!! Guy
One of my all time favourites Simon...I am green with envy and I now remember what I need to buy one day Here are a couple of paragraphs I stole from a website: There are few cars which are so unique that they're considered a design classic as soon as they appear, but the Alfa Romeo SZ certainly is one of them. It was a product, a remarkable synthesis of two renowned Italian companies looking for a new lease of life. There was Alfa Romeo, submerged in the Fiat-concern in the 1980s, with a tarnished image of building rusting cars which lacked quality searching for a renewed link with their exiting sports car past. And there was Zagato, the Milan-based design studio and coach builder, which was making a gradual transition from developing and manufacturing (exotic) production car bodywork to industrial design and prototyping. Both companies found each other in a common need to reestablish their images in the late 1980s which lead to the remarkable Alfa Romeo SZ berlinetta and ultimately the RZ roadster. It wasn't fashionable nor conservative, it took no cues from any other model and it wasn't easy on the eyes. You either loved it or hated it and at best it was avant-garde. It set a standard which was never followed, it was named and revered as "The Monster"; it brought life to the scene of wind tunnel and consumer groups dictated anonymous car design. In other words: it stirred emotions. And that's what makes a car more than an object.... Not my words, but valid nonetheless!! I just love it - good choice my friend & I hope it comes to Tuscany!! MARK
Simon I may have to ban you from the Tuscany trip!!! What, bring a mere 6 cylinder engine???? 207 HP ????? Actually, I'm quite worried that his new little devil will out-handle most of us in the twisties... but only as long as it's dry. Did Simon say what tires he's got? It's mad - he's got the Pirelli P Zero Corsa Road-racing slicks!!!!!! Consider this - a car with NO servo-brakes, NO power-steering, NO traction control, and a VERY SHORT wheelbase, and rear wheel drive.... Hmmmmmm I think if it rains I suggest we all stay well clear of Simon Munari out there - he'll be emulating the great Sandro Munari in the (similarly un-assisted and twitchy) Lancia Stratos trying to keep his own twitchy little devil SZ straight and on the road!!!
Something nice lurking in Belgium: http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page.php?carno=5172
CONGRATS SIMON!!!!!! You are an owner of one of the most beautifull cars Italy has produced in the 90's. This is one of my all time favorites and will be in my garage once. I have been on natinal TV while driving a brand new ES30 But that's a story I'll tell you later. Say "hi" to Eduard van Beek when you speak to him. He is the founder of the worldwide SZ register and living about 500meters from my new house. I know him for years, we were subscibed both with the dutch alfaclub. He is absolutly THE SZ expert in the world. Have fun with your new toy!!
Congrats! Looks great, especially how new the wheels look. Like you I intend on adding one to my garage in the near future.
Hi Simon, Congrats you lucky bastard! This Zagato looks better then a Fulvia (Vulva ) and is a rare AR piece. Gimmie a ride! cinque
