Just curious to know people's thoughts about these results from Mecum where a current generation Ford GT sold for $1.87 million while a 300 SL Mercedes sold for just $0.9 million.

Now I know which car I'd prefer hands down (Benz) but can someone shed light on the disparity? I've seen at least 20 Ford GT, including 5 at one cars and coffee event, and I'm not trying to knock the car, as a driver's car it is huge, does not sound great with its ecoboost V6, has a sparse interior and you can't fit so much as a pizza in its trunk.

Add to this EVO took the AMG GT R ($189k), Porsche GT2 RS ($293k) and the Ford GT (over $500k) to the Anglesey race track where the Ford GT finished dead last by a notable margin. Porsche 1:12.01, Mercedes 1.36.06, Ford 1.14.2. Given the nature of Angelsey, that tells me on a canyon, mountain or typical country road the Porsche and Mercedes will actually be faster, particularly where you might have to deal with oncoming traffic.

Scarcity can't be it as Ford made 4000 GT and Mercedes produced just 1,858 and I suspect more 300SL have been lost over the last 60 years than Ford GT over the last few years.

Is this an anomalous result or an indication of a shift in the collector car market towards more modern cars?

Incorrect, the current model is just about 1,000 units these days, but still being produced....what you are interpreting incorrectly here is the demand. The demand for an American Icon in the USA is miles ahead of that for European cars. And with the last 2 versions of the Ford GTs, that is what we have, an incredible demand.

I think you are mistaking current FGT (1350 units) vs old FGT (over 4000 produced) and that 1.8M figure is inflated because it was only one available back then. Now new FGT is nestled in high 900k zone.

Maybe it's just me, but I take Mecum results with a huge grain of salt...

Ascend is correct - Ford GTs are readily available for <$1mm for anyone that wants to make a phone call or two...

Yeah if its MK2, thats like FXX to Enzo. Not that I can afford it but I cant see myself buying track only version... when you can literally get track toys for fraction of a price.

You can't compare a 300SL coupe ("gullwing") to a 300SL roadster in terms of value. Not the same.

Even though I personally think the roadster should be more valuable... prettier and more usable. But the market speaks.
