The thing that interests me is this...a major point of differentiation between cars has been the engine. There is very little in common between the emotive relationship comparing a 911 engine, Ferrari V12 or even Ferrari V8 and V6 or, for example, a muscle car V8. What's going to differentiate marques when they all have electric motors, apart from interior and exterior? Obviously performance, as always, and suddenly range and changing rate might be important.... But from an emotive point of view?
It'll just be the prestige of the brand. Wankers will still buy Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis thinking they are buying a sports car.

In many ways that point was reached some time ago... the average buzz box has way more ‘performance’ than Joe Commuter needs; anyway no one ‘drives’ anymore - they just point and squirt, nanny aids and auto everything does just about everything else for them. Look at the percentage of SUVs on the road today; everyone goes like a scalded cat on straight flat roads, as soon as you come to a corner they’re crawling. Half the drivers these days would be lucky if they knew how many cylinders they have.
I disagree - 20 years ago the vast majority of F-owners were actual enthusiasts who knew most technical details, at least in general terms. That is not the case today.
Yes and no. 20 years ago many of the "new car" owners had very little idea of the technical details, so no different to a proportion of the new car owners of today. But the current owners of those 20 year old cars generally do have some technical knowledge of their cars (aside from remembering to put fuel in it). The other consideration is that Ferrari's ( and indeed all cars) have become more user friendly and reliable but also more complicated. The result is that not a lot of technical knowledge is needed to use and enjoy the cars, but if they do break, repairs are beyond the scope of the enthusiast anyway.
