OK I see it now. Something weird with my cache... The FIA cutoff for historic F1 cars is 1985. In Europe there is a series called BOSS, for cars from 1996. So a 1992 car sits in unfortunate hole where it's ineligible for any racing - it's just a private track day toy. I might add that if this Brabham doesn't need a computer to start, then it doesn't have its original electronics, which seriously compromises its value. There are many traps for buyers when it comes to old F1 cars.
Yes, with race cars it's all about eligibility. It's worse in the UK, where historic F1 cuts off at 1983. Even then you won't get an entry unless your car has impeccable provenance. They don't invite "tributes" to the Monaco Historics... The only desirable "modern" cars are the ones that were driven by world champions, particularly Schumacher or Senna. They're bought for collections, not for racing.
