I finally had a chance to see this car in the flesh and really spend some time around it and check it out... So here are the pictures... I would first like to note that the 599 MUST be seen in person to be fully appreciated. It is a very sexy car. Very sexy.

The 599 takes many styling cues from Ferrari eras gone by. The single taillights on either side of the curved rear end are reminiscent of the 275. The smooth curvature of the rear end - and the little duck tail lip that joins the horizontal and vertical parts of the trunk remind me of the 456. Other observers said the rear buttresses paid homage to the Superamerica (the original Superamerica).

The whole front end of the car is also akin to a 275. The curved, voluptuous fender lines that extend from the A-pillars, over the front wheels to the front of the car, ending in covered headlights are beautiful. The bubble in the center of the hood, and the protruding front fascia of the 599 suggest the possibility of a 40 years-advanced GTB/4.

The car has many lines, but instead of obfuscating the design of the car as a whole, they leave the viewer entranced, following the curves all along the body. The profile view of the car hides the vertical wave of curves that fill out the side of the car. The shape of the berlinetta's roof is similar to that of the new Superamerica in that its highest point is just aft of the windshield line. As it moves back, the roof begins to slope down, giving the car a sort of "fast back" look. As the buttresses continue this line down to the rear deck lid, the top of the 599's profile is very smooth and, at the risk of repeating myself, very sexy.

The interior seems ..."less" than the interior of other contemporary Ferrari V-12 GT cars. And I don't mean that in a bad way. The recaro sport seats - in this case, power-operated - have full carbon fiber backs and come in a number of styles. The minimalist appearance that these sport seats yield give the impression that hordes of details and an overabundance of irrelevant **** weren't poured into the interior. There are still no cup holders.

The generous use of carbon fiber throughout the interior make it absolutely beautiful. Ferrari has ditched the very expensive and very breakable reverse lever and replaced it with a button. That button, along with the "automatic" button and two other buttons, are neatly placed on a curved, aluminum panel where the central dash and console meet.

The 599's engine is one fifth the car's total weight. So with the big, curved front end and the slanted windshield that gives way to a declining roof line, the 599 looks big in pictures. It is, in fact, only four inches longer and one inch wider than a 550 Maranello. It also weighs four pounds less than the 550.

Though there are two types of Ferraris - Ferraris and black Ferraris - don't pass an opportunity to see one in red. In red, you can properly see the car's lines without its beauty being enhanced by the best color ever.

The 599 GTB Fiorano is very curvy and very sexy and still manages to give off an aura of sleek and fast. The 550 and 575M are both cars that are hard to improve upon. So the 599 is not an improvement on them, but rather an advancement in front-mounted V-12 production GT Ferraris. If I ever ride in one or - :gasp!: - drive one, I'll certainly post my 'motion' review up next to this 'stationary' view. But as it stands, I want one already!

Great styling review NNO. Thank you for posting the pictures too. Did the standard wheels appear better in person? They still have not grown on me. I still much prefer the Challenge wheels.

If the engine is so far back, then why the long nose. I mean if Ferrari wanted to, they could have made it look like a mid-engine exotic.

    carbon,

when i saw the 599 in february, i was hooked. i typically don't jump on the new car band wagon and most cars have to grow on me, some never do. however, when you see the 599 in person, it is a car that screams ferrari. when i first said that all ideas of corvette were removed from my mind, most people blew me off and said it is a corvette look a like. now that people are seeing it, a different story has emerged.

like all new models, i look at the 599 and wonder, 3-4 years from know when they revise it, how can they do it? it is such a good looking car with performance that makes me wonder when will liability kick in for manufacturers?? afterall, the 599 isn't far off in performnace than the enzo or carrera gt. watching as many accidents as have occured, it is only a matter of time before we start to see lawyers and government involved. in the mean time, i can't wait to drive a 599 gtb (until i see the sypder version)

HANDLING. Ferrari still makes cars meant to be driven and driven hard. On roads with corners. Roads without gold chain outlets and pawn shops along the way.

    Nice pics Carbon!

I do also have a weak hart for black Ferrari's and I've seen several 599 GTB's now for real. Black, red, silver... I still don't like it and I probably will never do. It looks a bit 'too' for me. It must be a dream to drive, but I don't like the looks... But is does look much better in real then on pics, that must have been said!

Anyway, nice pics and story, thank you for sharing!

Great shots Carbon. I'm glad they took the ropes down off the black one so we could get some shots of it.

Thanks for the extensive photo selection. When I watched the National Geographic program at the dealership, they showed the car going around the Fiorano track. From a distance, the front certainly does looks like the 275!

I still don't care for the stock wheels, but otherwise the car is a beauty.

Here's a look at another car being delivered to a snowy clime: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1830893&page=1.

    Nice pics!

Carbon -- is that Nero Daytona or regular Nero ?
I think the darker colors really enhance the lines of the car.

    Carbon,

Thanks for the superb set of in-depth shots, as well as your well thought out comments.
Your pics did the car justice. It is, to me, pure Ferrari, a car that could only come from Italy, subtle, elegant, sexy, fast, Like nothing else.

Can't wait to see one in person.

It must just be me, but every time I see a picture of the front, I see a Chevron cartoon car with chubby little cheeks. Otherwise, it's really well executed to my eyes.

Hope I like the in-person view frontal view better.

    Gorgeous...!

I can never keep straight which is which - Nero Daytona is the metallic black, right...? This one was not metallic...

In my most humble of opinions, a Ferrari - no matter how beautiful - looks that much more beautiful in black. Just my personal opinion/preference... :)

I can't wait, either...! I think everyone should see at least one in person...!

You definitely will, I guarantee it... :)

I was not able to take pics but I saw one today in Vegas at the Pensky/Wynn
dealership in Las Vegas. It was the flat black. I actually saw this car earlier this week on the 215 but black is difficult to get a good impression of from a distance. Plus it was going the other way.

I did not go to the dealership to try to see the 599 because I certainly wasn't expecting one to be there. I was actually looking at a 612 they have. The 599 was parked next to the 612 and it was breath taking. I wasn't sure in pics because the front kind of reminded me of the 612 which I hate (and to think I am actually looking at purchasing a 612). But the front of the 599 is stunning. As is the rest of the car. The flying buttresses are incredible on this car.

All I can say is that the car is absolutely fantastic. If I wasn't looking for a Ferrari that I can put a child seat in I would certainly get the 599.
