The historic Wrong Brothers preparing their classic machine for a flight. It set aviation back 40 years.

No intention to disrespect the passing of your friend because I have lost many myself.

A residential airpark near a major city. How's that for vague? Although N searches would probably tell the story.

An otherwise-similar fly-in community where one of the residents is a celebrity with a rather larger airplane than the rest. (Not my photo)

Zeppelin Hangar with confiscated German aircraft, many of which were shipped to the US for testing. Very high res photo that allowed identifying all the WW-1 German types, plus the US (French built) Salmson 2 seaters and Liberty powered DH-4s (US built).

When scanned at 2400 dpi, very large photo, was 1 Gb file.

Bob- Affirmative, virtually none of these aircraft now survive. Nearly 100 Fokker D.VIIs were brought over and the only one left is in Canada. The Fokker D.VII on the lower right between the two allied two seaters was taken out the next day and the pilot killed in a crash.

The opposite of the Me-109; the main gear on it splayed outward and retracted outward.

The Grumman Bearcat, which design many say was influenced by the FW-190, including gear layout, has vertical struts on the mains; they don't lean inward.

I'm guessing that one has an R-1830 instead of the original BMW 801?

Unless it's one of the many FlugWerk reproductions...
    They have Chinese radials.

This is apparently the only FW-190 in Australia:

    From Wiki

    "Australia
173056 - Fw-190A-8 Restored to flying condition in the USA, now residing in Albury, NSW. This aircraft was produced in 1944 and flown as ‘White 14’ with 1/JG11 during the war. Only about 10% of the airframe is original. It has a Russian ASh-82 engine."

Thanks for calling the ASh-82 an ENGINE and not a "motor". Okay! It is one of my quirks. When I was a kid it was drilled into me that a motor was a device that acquired its power from an outside source, like an electric motor. An engine produces its own power.

The A-8s were optimized for ground attack and more of those seem to have survived the war than any other 190 type. Also helped that they were pretty late models. The D models were used more as interceptors, but not many survive.

I was involved both days manning a stand so didn't get to see & hear everything..

I *thought* I heard a fragment over the loudspeakers discussing the engine and they said was Chinese.. but I can't be 100 and who knows what the commentators were fed.

I guess a search of authoritative sources would be needed to confirm!

Not huge % original as has been pointed out so I suppose some fabrication required.. nice to see it flying.

I was in a conversation with an older English lady and she said her father was a Handley Page pilot in WW1 and in WW2 where she lived in Kent she saw ME 109 and FW 190 for real.. goodness knows what that must have been like to be under attack like that.

The ASh-82 makes sense, since it displaced 2515 cubic inches (vs 2560 for the BMW 801) and was 49.6 inches in diameter (vs 51 for the BMW). Similar displacement 14-cylinder radials like the R-2600 and Bristol Hercules were 55 inches in diameter, so may not fit inside the Fw's cowl.

The early FW-190s completely outclassed the Spit Mk V when introduced. The Mk IX evened things out.

    Since you mention the A-8,

A pilot friend witnessed a homebuilt do a ground loop last weekend at a local airport... (minor injuries).

So I looked up 'ground loop' on Wikipedia...

They show a current pic of an A-8 in the middle of a ground loop, collapsed gear.
