Does anyone know what the FCAM looks like on the car and if North America Ferrari wont force you to get that?
FCAM I believe is required and free in US. That is the one on the front of the rear view mirror that reads speed limit signs etc. it’s not noticeable. Front parking camera I believe is optional (back is required and included). That one is mounted on the lower front spoiler lip in front of the t-tray. You can see it in the Varryx YouTube videos. Not very pleasant looking but small. The optional adaptive cruise control box and system further has that large cube sensor that’s mounted in the center in the t-tray area fully blocking that. That one is hideous. Also visible on one of the varryx videos. Been meaning to dig all these up and start a thread on the surround view option which has the camera bulges under the side view mirrors. Marginally better than we see on the F8 now.
First thank you for the reply. But are you sure because when you go to the 296 GTB configurator and click on the FCAM option it does come up on the cars exterior. Thanks again!
Interesting. Hadn't seen that, but just gave it a shot and see what you mean. I'm pretty sure it's a bug in the configurator where they're mixing them up. You see the front spoiler camera when you choose Advanced Front Camera, but you also see it if you choose Surround View. FCAM is required for US as well as rear parking camera. Hi DQSF, Thank you for your reply and for taking a look at the configurator for me. It is appreciated. Exactly, and when I asked my sales executive what it was they did not know. That was over a week ago and they are still holding my $10k deposit . I feel like the configurator went down hill since the F12 Berlinetta. It seems clunky and is not as clear and concise about labelling and codes. Shareholders maybe? Also, thanks for sharing those other discussions I will take a look. Planning to call a Ferrari dealer outside of the ownership network I am going to and see if I can get more concrete information.
So yesterday I got a chance to see and drive the coupe. The car has a pretty amazing presence. It looks a lot better in person and I don’t understand why the car doesn’t photograph so well. I have only my 488 spider to compare with. So here goes; the design is something you should see and determine if you like yourself. It is aesthetic and has been debated heavily on this thread. I think it is beautiful and has a strong presence. I think from the looks, I would have liked to see something more like the front air scoop like the f8 and pista. For the rear, I think I prefer the round tail lights. I think the rear lights could work a bit better if they were bigger and redesigned a bit. The car flows nicely and the lines are really beautiful. I think it will grow on me slowly over time. It is not an in your face, omg, I can’t believe how awesome it looks! Ala pista or f8 to my eyes on the exterior. Interior is amazing and a natural progression of the typical Ferrari interior. Button and knobs have been replaced by digital touch screens. Everything is basically where I expected it to be and it was surprisingly easy to adapt to the controls. I drove a car with carbon fiber race seats and they were more comfortable than the ones in the 488. I also sat extensively in the standard seats and the Daytona comfort seats. Those are definitely more comfortable and I felt very relaxed in those. They are more comfortable than the race seats. Always interesting to hear about personal contacts with a new Ferrari! Do you have a picture of the back of that beautiful Giallo 296?
With respect to the driving experience, I can only compare it to my 488 spider. When you turn the car on, you don’t even know it’s on. There’s no sound, nothing. Then, you put it in gear and go and it is surreal. Never driven a car like this without the roar of the exhaust. That will take some getting used to. But when I got a chance to get on it a little bit it’s nice and peppy and is fine for driving around the neighborhood. I was more than pleased with it. When I switched it into hybrid mode, and then put my foot into it, the engine woke up at and, I said yeah! That’s what I’ve been missing. It has a really nice sound. The engine feels close and from what I understand, there is no piping of sound in through the cabin. It’s just the sound that the car makes which is nice. The engine is smooth and powerful. And it definitely gets the job done. As I wasn’t really interested in fuel economy on this run, the hybrid mode lasted about 30 seconds and then I switched it into competition mode or qualifying mode, not sure which it’s called. That was the sweet spot for me. Full gasoline engine with electric assist. And we were off! The car is fast. Very fast. We drove through the hills and some canyons. Traffic was relatively light. And I was very interested in seeing what this could do so, I stuck it in second gear and put my foot on the floor and away we went. And boy did we go. It is quick and I took it all the way up to redline and hit the rev limiter before shifting. It was very cool. I really had a blast driving the car and feel that it is plenty quick for me. Honestly, I could not determine on this drive whether or not it is much faster than the 488. Definitely not slower. The car does everything well and as cars get newer, sometimes it’s harder to know that you’re actually going quite a bit faster. As far as handling goes there is a significant benefit and improvement over the 488. The ride is smoother. Bumpy roads mode really softens things up on roads that you would normally feel quite a bit of bumping and shaking. I had the opportunity to take somewhat of a spirited drive through some corners and turn in is very nice. Corner exit also feels really good with the liberal application of the gas pedal. The car goes where you want it to go. I think refined is an appropriate term. Unfortunately, there was no drifting involved, lol. Not even close. But there was enough of a drive to really get an idea of what this car will do and it really is a wonderful car to drive. I could see myself driving for hours and being comfortable in it even with the race seats. It does feel like there is a little less headroom than the 488 spider. I fit nicely but I am about 6 foot 2 1/2 inches tall. Depending on your body proportions, you may or may not fit as nicely as I did. Certainly, once I got going, all of that was quickly forgotten because of the experience. Overall, I was very pleased with my drive. I do have to say one thing about the wheels. The wheels on the yellow car look really nice in person as to the ones in red. However, if given a choice I would choose the ones on the yellow car . A final note about seats. I was able to sit in the carbon fiber receipts, the sport Daytona comfort seats and the stock seats. I found all of them to be comfortable. The carbon fiber receipts in my 488 Spyder I feel like comfortable but barely. The new carbon fiber race seats are certainly an improvement. The other seat options are what I would consider luxurious for a sports car. Definitely designed for longer drives. I think all of them can work nicely. And if the free drive was not enough, Ferrari was kind enough to provide an up close and personal view of the all new to 96 spider. This is a really beautiful car. I like the way the top goes up and down. I had to take a few pictures of that as well and here you go. Thanks for sharing - that demo road show is supposed to be here in a few weeks. I'll report in too, when I get my drive.
That’s great. Would love to hear your feedback. I highly recommend this. I have never had an all inclusive driving and detail experience like this where I was able to get to know the car. Let alone a test drive.
I didn’t get any snaps of the rear for the yellow. What I do remember is that the car had a body color bumper that had some holes in it not unlike the Roma front grill when painted in body colors. I think it’s a very interesting look.
On the configuration file I got PAC1 is the REAR parking camera, FCAM is part of ADAS and is the front camera supposed to be able to detect and understand (some?) road signs (like speed limits I guess). I cannot see a front parking camera, there are front sensors PAR2.
Is there a "regular" small 12V battery in addition to the larger batteries used for the electric motors ? If no then does it mean the car should be able to stay parked for over a month without trickle charger and still start fine ?
