It has been probably more than a year (or two) since I last posted on Fchat and I'm trying to catch up.
Good timing on my return, here is something my brother in Calgary texted to me just as I was posting the above question: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Not sure why I paid $15.00 only to find my posts are being edited. Why be a member of an automotive forum where I, as a member, can't discuss the cars which other members of the community are driving? Is it such a secret? Is there any reason to be afraid? Is the F-chat bandit going to come to your house and take a picture of your car with the license plate showing and steal your identity and sleep with your wife? Ferrarichat; the only automotive forum where you can't discuss automobiles. Requesting a refund for my membership.
What is the context of the editing? Who edited you? Was it a mod taking care of some content that was perhaps private information, or slanderous, or antagonistic? I have had my posts edited for just those reasons, and although it was annoying a first, I realized and admitted my wrong. Also, if you are seeking a refund, you are asking the wrong people. I'm not sure refunds are given on this website, but if they are I'd suggest talking to Rob Lay first as hes the dude for that. So what's the 411 here Tanner? Chris
I was asking Tanner a question. I was saying he doesn't ask the forum members for a refund. Barking at the wrong tree thats it thats all why do you ask Denis? do you know something? Chris
Tanner, allow me to apologize. A member asked me to remove some sensitive info and just to be respectful to him, I did it. He is a long time member, a colleague and enthusiast who shares a lot with us many other times. Please continue to contribute as you normally do and stay as a subscribed member. I won't go into details but I ask that you understand and respect my decision Thanks.
To make it short and sweet, here is the context: I recently re-subscribed to Fchat after having not visited for some time. I spent some time reading through the Alberta thread where I used to keep up-to-date on recent happenings. I came across some new info about a member who owns several rare Ferraris. My first post as a re-subscribed member was a question about who this person was, not because I want to track them down them but because they shared a name with somebody who I once personally knew, but with whom I have lost touch with in recent years. Basically, if it's not the person who I am thinking of, then I have little interest in what cars they own or where they came from. Also, it should be noted that if I were to formally request a refund for my membership, I would indeed PM Rob Lay. However, I like to think that I have more important things to do with my time for $15.00 and there's a pretty good chance that Rob does as well. Afterall, I gained a lot from Fchat back in the day and I don't mind contributing to the community, even now that things seem to have changed from when I was a regular here. It still is a great source of info and who knows, maybe there will be more pictures that I want to upload and share. I will do my best to contribute and make use of my membership while I still have it. Vasco, thanks for the explanation. I do understand his concern; and if I owned a Ferrari F50 and if it was parked in the garage of my house where my family sleeps, I probably wouldn't be parading that information to god-knows-who on the internet; that's just begging for unwanted attention. I understand that, and I too keep my life's most important details within my own circle of personal friends. What I don't understand is what happened to Ferrarichat: a forum where I used to feel welcomed into so that I could learn, join events and meet people who actually own and drive my dream cars. Whether it was reading stories from owners or meeting them on the weekend and riding shotgun for a cruise, Ferrarichat brought me into contact with something that had always out of my own personal reach at that time. That really meant something to me. Being a regular on here gave my dream a pulse... and I know that was the case for many other Fchatters. So, without getting too sappy...years passed, I got older, moved out and got a career. Being a car enthusiast is still as big of a part of me as ever. So, I stop into Fchat one day...re-subscribe, look around and ask a question. I come back a couple days later to check for responses but I see nothing has changed except my own post had been censored to protect another enthusiast's privacy. Another member who although they choose to subscribe as a member to an automotive enthusiast's "community", wishes to selectively choose who and who not, amongst other paid subscribers, can ask about his garage. I immediately felt frustrated in that the magic of Ferrarichat seems to have been lost somewhere along in the way. It doesn't feel like a place for enthusiasts, it feels more like a secret society. What I am really looking for is a group of car guys who, like me, want to check online what is happening with the world of cars this week in their city, area or even province. Maybe you have a 1991 Chevy Nova in your garage or maybe you have a Lamborghini Miura SV...the best thing about being a real car enthusiast is that everything else goes away when you meet another one. It doesn't matter who you are or what you know, how much money you have or you don't have, whether you are well-known or the new kid on the block...the "car guy" always understands the "car guy". That is the single most important aspect in keeping car culture alive. Sadly, I just don't see much evidence of that here. But, I hope I am wrong.

This event is open to everyone! Thursday April 24th, 7:00pm-9:00pm After the success of last year's Tech Night with Mobile Solutions, a good number of you asked if we could do another. I'm pleased to say that Larry and the good folks on his team have made it happen! The driving season is right on our doorstep and after talking with Larry, it looks like a lot of new technology has been introduced since our last session. So before you blow out your fuse panel trying to install that CRAIG cassette deck you salvaged from your '87 Cutlass, or you glue tin-foil to your front bumper because you think it will jam police radar guns, join us on Thursay April 24th from 7-9pm to learn about the following: - How Speed Enforcement and prevention really works - A review of easy and effective audio upgrades - Introduction of the Escort 9500CI Enhanced radar detector - Any questions you can possibly whip up, Larry will answer! Being a valued FCA sponsor, snacks and beverages will be served, and if the weather is any good, I'm sure a few of us will be using it as an excuse to get our cars out for the evening! Gents, I am importing a 15 year old Euro spec 550 into Canada later this year. I have posted other questions related to this in the Ontario thread but I have a question for our Alberta Brethen. I have a brother that lives in Calgary who I stay with regularly. My principle Residence is in Ontario yet I do a lot of Business in Calgary. I would like to save on some tax too if it is just a matter of changing my address to my brothers place for a few months and replating the car at a later date to Ontario. Are there any complications related to this? Car is in California so I can come up anywhere. If residency is in Calgary, do I pay B.C. Tax if I come up through B.C. Or is tax collected based on residency?
Tax is collected based on residency - but proving residency is a bit tricky. You would need an Alberta drivers license, and a utility bill for your residence to prove you actually reside here (phone, power, gas, city utility with the address and your name).
When I imported my ferrari from ohio I had a trucking company cross the border in Ontario than they brought the car to alberta and I only had to pay alberta's tax cause that was my residence and the final destination of the car. So to answer your question...No u won't have to pay bc tax just cause it's crossing the border there and yes u will save taxes using your brothers alberta address.
