I don't suppose anyone knows what the "348" badge design font is do they?
Like so many automotive companies the font is not an existing font and custom designed, copyrighted and trademarked. It is not available for use by the general public. Licensees of that brand may use it but only under strict guidelines prescribed by the manufacturer and it is usually provided to the licensee by the manufacturer. For instance you cannot use or create a font that replicates a trademarked font i.e.. Ferrari. If you create or use a copyrighted font you are liable and will in all probability receive a cease and desist for using that font in any application and open to suit pursuant to it's use. Sometimes an existing font in the public domain may be altered but it is still copywrighted when revised. Many companies use an existing font for their advertising, collateral, etc.and those fonts are available to all to use because they are not custom designed.
I'm sure Dennis is right... I wonder, however, if there is a time limit on the copyright, or if it has to be renewed, or if, in fact, Ferrari ever copyrighted that particular font? Mike in Kuwait
You can download the "Ferrari" font here. It is not the "348" font that you are looking for, but is still cool to have. http://www.dafont.com/ferro-rosso.font
Is that endorsed by Ferrari? I like how they implemented it by stretching the top horiz bar of the first letter of each word to make it extend over the rest of the letters. I wrote this in Word.. (see attached).. looks perfect! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I've got that one already, but decided not to use it as Ferrari will definetly have an issue with it. I found this graphic on a website, so thought maybe there was a font available for it. I reckon I could get away with it as it's for a 348 website. Image Unavailable, Please Login
legally, you're not supposed to be able to use their logos or even the official car pictures from their site. realistically, they probably won't do anything about it, if it's a positive fan site. you can use car pictures that you take yourself, and you can draw pictures yourself too. All this is based on the response I got from M-B corporate in Germany and their PR people in Netherlands, when I started working on BenzFanz.com. (http://BenzFanz.com/) ~shahedc .
Guys, it's a bust. Even if you manipulate the look and feel of the Ferrari font and make it more condensed or extended they can still come after you.Besides your really in deep stuff if you use the word 'Ferrari' as shown above, that's a logo/signiture and copyright infringement. I think Eugenio had his logo name ) for awhile in the Ferrari type style and he had to change it. You can use the word Ferrari because it's a common name in Italian (Ferrari Pasta) etc. but you must use a different font and not attempt to copy the signature Ferrari style ie the extended bar, etc. I deal with this stuff everyday and I know Ferrari takes it very seriously. I'm sure if you use that Ferrari simulated font for yourself or local club events it's probably ok but any commercial use is a bust......don't want to rain on the parade but it is what it is..........hope this helps.
The cool part about the 348 font is that Ferrari has "racetracks" running inside each number. The 348 was meant to race (and did so at Le Mans).
I think you'll find even some local FOC groups have had calls from Ferrari after using anything they are not allowed to. Ferrari have a team trawling the web looking out for stuff. club, fans, owners, people using horse on mats anything - all treated the same. beware.
Good question, maybe it's a bust too?, although many of us here using a picture of a Ferrari mark or car aren't selling anything and it's fan linked, it's a good point taken though. Maybe I'll change back to my old avatar. On the other hand it's a picture I took of my car that I hold copyright to with NO INTENT to promote or compete. A good question for a copyright attorney. If true to the letter of the law that means that no one can ever take a picture of a Ferrari, Ford or John Deer Tractor for personal use and everyone on this planet is guilty of infringement. It might be a fact to be determined but pity the company that brings that into a court of law.
I would guess you could take a picture of the badge/logo on your car and use it however you want. I would want real legal counsel on this, but if I took a photo of the nose badge on my car and wanted to sell the photo I don't see how Ferrari could intervene -- or why they would want to. Thats funny, never seen that one before, a real classic. Question , are the wheels really made out of stone?
Hey, what do you think of the new avatar? a (Fly Yellow 275 Spyder) Didn't change it because of any of our discussion points but change is good and it was time. Thanks for reminding me.
