Watching him (and now basically all YouTubers) makes me not want to buy a car so hopefully he didn’t hurt our values.
The title “really isn’t SO bad” ain’t gonna help either.

ANY good, positive attention helps the world understand our cars.

It is indeed the unsurpassed driving experience that keeps us enthralled. SG

DeMuro was a bit giddy when driving the Mondial. That fact is important.

The Ferrari Mondial is most misunderstood car of all time. When you are an owner, it’s like being part of a secret club.

Two experienced car journalists have now reviewed it, DeMuro and Harris, and both give unquestionably stamps of approval.

He’s not even close to being a half decent motoring journalist. Watch some of Harry’s Garage and you’ll know what I mean

From the onset, it was a sales pitch for that particular car that was going to auction.

It’ll take me a few days to get his stupid voice out of my head too :D

I haven't had time to watch this yet, so I'll reserve judgment until after seeing it -- but he has already pretty much lost me at the "Isn't so bad" title. Except for the 8, the Mondial series has absolutely nothing to apologize for. It has more comfort than other Ferraris of the period while being just as visceral and raw of an experience. The "isn't so bad" title sounds like Demuro is internet educated. I know he's driven a bunch of cars (though I rarely watch his videos), but it just seems like a cop out title. I know I shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, or a video by its title, but I can't help but do so anyway in this case :).

I agree with DeMuro that the T is a fun car to drive. I too love the 3.4 engine. What he did not mention is the excellent handling of the car. Braking and cornering are superb and add to the enjoyment of the driving experience.

All Mondial owners know that their car is a hidden gem. There def fun to drive and the mid mounted motor gives the car amazing handling. Does the car have issues yes but that is every Ferrari built. What Doug didn’t mention is that there were a lot less mondials built then f40 and that coupes are a rare find. I’ve stopped watching these reviews on the Mondial just because I know what I have and I don’t need to reassure myself that the Mondial is a great car. A lot of these you tubers now think they are car experts but they are not you listen to some of them and they are just talking out of there butts they probably never driven and older model Ferrari like the Mondial and they are basing there review on what they have read not on driving the car for a while. Let’s be real you cant make an assumption off a car driving it a few hours for a review you learn the car over time. I bought my car three years ago and I wouldn’t wanna change it at all. I dont need Doug to tell me I have a not so bad car.

Harris did make fun of it, but if you notice, it was all due to the condition of the car (not the car itself.) That's the thing about the Mondial, lots (most?) are in bad shape. That further perpetuates the negative stereotypes.

I finally had time to watch it last night. He did enjoy driving it. I thought it was an "OK" review. I don't know if he was trying to bias the "t" because he was promoting that individual car for sale, but he seemed more inclined to lump the non-t together. The reality is that only the "8" has anything to apologize for (bad timing on smog equipment killed the performance of the previously healthy 2-valve v8 when carbed, and overtaxed electrics on the 8). I couldn't quite understand his critique of the look of the wheel arches -- but that would have been a good time to mention that the "t" removed the wheel flares that were on the prior models. Same with the side air intakes (which are smaller than on the t than the prior models -- could be good or bad depending on preferences). Still don't like the "isn't so bad" title, but I guess it's effective click-bait.

I believe Doug used to be on FChat, not sure if he still logs in.

I met Doug... long before he was "internet famous"... we had a met at Dave Helms place with a bunch of the Fcars from around CO. I think I met him there. Anyway, he drove my 308QV, and was thrilled, giddy, gigglish. He was young then (not like he's old now).

I will say that I did like his early videos, but like a few YouTubers, he's "gone commercial". Once you add in your own business, it seems to taint what you are saying/doing.

I do, well did, like him, but yeah, the Yellow 3.4 t is on his site, he's not going to be as neutral or as thorough as maybe he would in some of his earlier videos.

I'll watch the video, and see just because, but it's sad when people "go all corporate". I'd rather him just look for strange cars to drive... like the Yugo video... :)

    Hey James,

I wanted to thank you again for both taking me out in your 308 and talking to me about it for a while. I really enjoyed your car, and am now looking forward even more eagerly to owning my own someday soon. :D

On the way back I got on the highway at Belleview, and there was a motorcycle police officer who had parked his bike on the onramp at Belleview and was leaning over the side of the onramp radaring cars on I-25. He was practically impossible to see from the highway! Good thing you kept your your speed in check today... well, mostly anyway. :)

I'll see you in the Spring, and thanks again!

If you like your car who cares what the rest of the world thinks? If you have a fragile ego maybe a grey Chevy Malibu is a better choice.

    *THIS*

The Mondial has a stigma attached to it because, let's all be honest, lots of folks think it looks horrid. This applies to many other Ferrari; see the 308 GT4, 365/400/412, FF or Purosangue. I've driven many Ferrari, vintage and modern alike, and to me, it looks great, and an amazing driver's car to boot!

Get the Mondial first and foremost because *you* love it.

    That's all that matters.

It was an excellent review. I always respected folks who said the car is 'ugly' - that's an true critique; if you don't like how it looks, you don't like how it looks. That's honest and fair. It's not for everyone.

It's another reason I love it; I tend to be a contrarian, and going to any Ferrari meet where there are many of the same cars, what can I say? I wouldn't say I like showing up to a party with the same shirt as somebody else. I love how it looks. I've found that connoisseurs are always especially curious.

The parts that drive me up the wall are when folks say stuff like the Mondial handles poorly, is less reliable than the 308/328/348, that it was the 'entry-level' model, that all are automatic, that it has a different engine, it sounds terrible, or Ferrari owners events don't allow it; yup I've heard it all. By the sounds of every modern review, it appears I'm not the only one.

No ifs, ands, or buts about it. The Mondial has a stigma.

If this bothers an owner, it's not the car for you. Prolly same folks that are too insecure to own a fried egg 911.

The loudest detractors often place aesthetics over function yet boast about performance and driving dynamics in the same breath of their choice while decrying the milquetoast value Ferrari offers

I lived it. I saw it, and quite frankly, I didn't understand it then, and I still don't understand some of these haters now. I *wish* I bought a Dino when nobody loved them, I *wish* I bought a Contach when they were 'dated' - but when it comes down to it gentlemen - most haters are all hat, no cattle.

That's why these haters didn't buy them when they were $ 20K-30K (all day long, you all know I'm not joshing.) Most bought a ToyoDodgTesHonFordo that now is either sitting in the junk yard or they can get what? 10-20% of what they paid?

Modern car reviewers now universally call these naysayers 'stupid' - hey - their word, not mine. (uneducated/inexperienced would be a more diplomatic word.)

Getting my Mondial t for $25K was one of the wisest decisions I've ever made. Looking back, I feel I stole it.

Considering I'm firmly in the black (upkeep and all) with my Mondial, I got paid to own this car, nay, not just any car, but a Ferrari. Enzo, wherever you are, thank you. Truly.

And only 629 Mondial QV Cabriolet's - I would say that makes me proud! I love mine. I had new leather put in, carpets, 348 wheels and I replaced so may engine parts on it - because I don't care if its expensive - I love it! Its my baby and my long term love. Besides, how many people can say - "I own a Ferrari." lol

I would have loved to have a T (sweet engine), but I I do all my own work and I cant work on that engine easily. You have to pull the engine to do belts and clutch. I have a QV, and its a breeze and fun to work on. Very cool cars. Handle like luxury go-carts! AND they turn heads. I paid $32k and put an extra (optional) $7k in it to make her perfect. New front leather, 348 wheels and maintenance. Expensive, but I love it.
