Mel, from the paw prints it looks like he has gone out there to pose for the photo I ordered 9 metres of the DX80 today (£26). It should be with me Saturday or Monday. Will post photos as soon as I am able and will also post up supplier details. P
Hello Phil; I am very appreciative of all your labor & research in sourcing the ever elusive "Fuzzy Felt", I think the Loch Ness monster is easier to find...anxiously awaiting your findings......Mark
Han, Phil is looking for these seals over here in Europe ... and it's a good job indeed ! But I can hardly believe there is no such materiel for sale in the whole of U.S.A. ....... In fact, it is no more then a "common rubber" for cars; is there really nothing of an universal seal to be found overseas that resembles the OEM ?
Mel, I think there with be a few Americans falling about with your term "common rubber". At £26 ($40 max) plus shipping to the USA, it is still way cheaper than the 512TR equivalent. Even the 512TR seal is coming closer to becoming part of the NLA (unobtanium) list. P
One would think so but it seems a thorough search has been made in the US without good results. Actually, a number of "universal seals" have been found that could work but the fit is less than desirable.
Don't worry Han, her Majesties proudest English subject is coming to save you Unfortunately its not worth a knighthood P
Hello Phil; If Elton John & Paul McCartney are knights, then the "honor" is over rated....remember Paul wrote.."Ebony & Ivory".....I hold you in higher stature for finding some Testarossa "Fuzzy".....Mark
Oh boy, I had better come through with the goods now.... Hopefully the seal will land on my best Wilton Monday morning P
I do not want to step on any toes or derail this thread, just provide a possible source for TR door gasket rubber. The only ones I could find were thru T. Rutlands which are for a 512TR at the cost of $469.80 each. $940 + Shipping Ouch!!! I contacted Ferrari Parts and received the following response. I am currently waiting for the quote, then will buy enough for 2 doors and a sample or two. They were able to get a replacement dash trim piece for me so I am hoping. James Baldwin "Hey James, For this rubber we have in bulk only thing the rubber wont have on it is the fuzzy stuff but the rubber is still the same, measure how much feet each side will need an I'll send you over a quote for it im thinking its either 11 to 14 ft all together both sides so let me know Thanks Regards Punu@FerrPartsUSA "
They just quoted me $125.40 for 25ft. $10 a foot with cost savings of $815 over OEM Ferrari pricing, but still over 3 times as expensive as Phil's DX80 gasket material. I will need to see how well it matches the original material. I will order 26 feet to have enough extra for at least 2 good size samples. Jim
What was that quote again? Is it 125.40 for 25 feet or 10.00 a foot equaling 250.00? If it matches the OEM perfectly (sans fuzz) it would be a palatable deal even at 250.00 total vs. the OEM pricing for sure. More than likely sourced from the same place. Thanks for the investigation Jim.
Well in that case, that's GOOD math! BTW, I bought my old 308 from your town back in 2002. I live about 40 miles east/NE from you (across the water).
My wife has taken me to Wales for the weekend so no fitting of the door seal yet. At least the seal arrived and looks good.
Received the TR door seal material from Ferrari Parts. The Ferrari Parts seal is on the left and my old seal is on the right. For reference the next picture is by Robert Hayden of his door seal from post #19. The gasket is the same size but the new gasket's profile is different and may compress & seal differently than the original seal. I wonder what the OEM $469.80 door seal profile looks like and if it is any closer to the original profile than Ferrari Parts $62.70 door seal. Well all the best laid plans Got everything together with the passenger seal out and find my "special glue" has gone off. Off the shops to get some more and start again....... P
Well the glue works really well. So well that the rubber ripped before the glue let go. Tomorrow I will make up the real joints and refit the seal....... Unless that is unless Lynda takes me out to glorious Goodwood racetrack for breakfast. Oh how I love Autumn (fall) in the south of England, great colours and great drives.... Did I mention the sound of a Tubi on Ferrari's best V12 ever made......... P Image Unavailable, Please Login
Phil, Do go to the Goodwood racetrack for breakfast ! Over here, I will host 40 F's + 15 other Sportscars for our annual Autumn Ride.... (6 or 7 Testa's incl one white one...) Will keep you all informed O.T. : Hope the exeperiment will go as you have foreseen... !
Mel you have me very jealous! I wish I was in beautiful Holland for a drive with your Ferrari crew. Lynda and I will be there next year in the Red Lady. Let me know when it is best to meet the rest of the Dutch team... P
