There is no conclusion, except for the one gained by reading the entire thread, backwards. If NOT F-pimp, someone mentioned the Pantera strip being close. I'll check these side-by-side, but that's a long shot.
I did with the weatherstripping I acquired.....but I am a half-assed hack when it comes to working on a tr in an acceptable manner. I am pleased as well as 10 others that bought and used the weatherstripping I sold them......but we are not as picky as others here on the BB......but we do have new weatherstripping installed at a fair price and enjoy that the wind noise is reduced, the rain stays out and it looks fantastic. I myself enjoy driving my tr rather using it to prop up my lack of personality and as a way to get "supposedly" laid by girls 15 years my junior! Stirring the pot Me
Dear Ferraristi, The only source so far is the Fpimp...everything else is "half assed" as Kerry would say. The OEM seals are the 512TR and 512M OEM. The Testarossa seals with the fuzzy layer are no longer available. ...close but no cigar. Uzz has done alot of exhaustive research and says it's no-go. Kerry, your mechanical skills are impressive and beyond refute but you use ill-fitting parts and those of a lesser quality than the OEM...not just without the yellow box. This just adds fuel to the mythological $35K Testarossa. 15 years?? puleeezzze....try 24 years... Now, while I am the center of your attention, try to focus on your TR. Shamile Freeze...Miami Vice !
...getting to them young so you don't have to endure comparisons? Sure hope that you are at least 42! LOL... wait this is the TR section, back to our regular programming
Well Gents, sorry to wake up the old thread again but after returning from the GB FOC Concourse this year I decided to do another search for door seals. I have come up with two that almost copy the original except for the finish. The finish is as per the TR and does not have the fuzzy felt. I will be in my workshop this weekend and I will do a test fit of the samples. If there is any reasonable success then I will post the pictures and details of the companies that I found. One sells for approx £2:50 ($3:50) per metre (about a yard) so its not going to be expensive. Will check back at weekend. P
Thank You PHILWOZZA....it would be great to find a suitable conclusion to this thread. I hope your successful....I for one will be anxiously waiting to hear....
Thank you for the research Phil. Alternatives that meet factory spec without the factory price is always welcome.
Well I think I have found one that is as close as we are going to get Its not a fuzzy material type but all the dimensions are to within a millimetre. I am going to download the photos from my camera shortly and post up below. P
I have been to three different firms here in the UK for samples. Two responded immediately, the third, well I can only think they either don't need new business or can't be arsed to post me. Anyway......... Pictures 1 to 3 here shows the best of all the samples I could find. The smaller of the two (DX80) is an almost exact match to the original. P . Here are some photos of the DX80 sample fitted to the roof section of the door P More to come in a minute Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oops file size too big, try again...... This is the DX80 sample with the original "joint" piece. Fits like a glove P Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The DX80 sample fitted to the door base. This shows the only real difference thatI could find. The fixing part is slightly narrower and so you can see just a little more carpet than with the original, some later photos show this a little clearer......... P . You can see that slightly more carpet is showing in the first photo, however when I checked around the top of the door the DX80 sample fits exactly as per the original. It might just be that the original has splayed apart over time. P . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
An finally the DX80 finish. I don't know how this compares with the 512TR, can anyone chip in here and describe?? The one thing I do know is that this sample will fit almost exactly as per the original so it should not leak. I am not sure of the price but I do know that DX 84 is sold by the metre. "Price per metre £2.76p for up to 25mtrs, 25mtrs + @ £2.12p per mtr Exstock". So I guess it is in this ballpark. I will post details of the UK supplier if anyone is interested. I have just found another supplier of the DX80 and it looks ever so slightly different so I have sent off for a sample. If it is better I will do a test fit again and post some photos. P
Well Spasso, from what I can see and feel, the newer DX80 is a little more resilient to crushing Do you want me to do some more detailed comparisons? If so let me know what you would like and I will endeavour to do the test and report back. Prices were in a recent post.... enjoy. P
Hi Phil, I decided to read the entire thread over again to see where the DX80 fell into the scheme of things. I wasn't sure if the DX80 had already been tested or not and find that it has not. (looking at posts #89 & #127) So far your investigation shows this profile to be the most promising and best performing. (compression profile). My seals are in good shape functionally with no water or wind intrusion but the cloth layer fuzz is wrinkled and dis-bonding in areas . With that said, I would be interested in the DX80. It appears to fit properly and the pinch bead looks okay. I guess purchase info is next. (Are the prices in the previous post per meter?) Maybe I missed it but how meters per side?
Hi Spasso, I am waiting for another sample of DX80 from COH Baines. The sample looks slightly different in their catalogue to the sample I have now so I want to do a last test fit. The DX84 was of the order of £2:70 per metre. Someone said 12 ft a side so that is approximately 4 metres so 8 metres total giving a cost of under £25 or approx $40US. I think the DX80 will be a similar price or even cheaper. Will post as soon as the sample arrives. P
512TR ...yes I will post three pictures of my lh side door OEM seal. It differs a lot of the seal of your Testarossa Phil... The OEM 512TR seal "clamp" side "with fur" (cloth layer fuzz) is as wide as the other side .... so much wider as the shown Testarossa seal ... Hope this will get you anywhere.... Interesting question from Han was not answered yet I think: how much is compression of this profile ....... Because any change with OEM will cause a "stiffer" closure of the doors ... Good luck !
