In a head to head match, which is the better car? More importantly, which is easier to live with on a daily basis?

Wouldn't it be more fair to ask about Testarossa vs. Countach?

I will leave judgement to others as I am obviously biased; but a Testarossa can be a cruel but tolerable mistress on a "daily basis". Even so, I trust it more just through the Zen mechanical sense than I would any Lambo of that day.

For me if the choice is 512TR vs diablo: I'd go 512TR.

If it's Testarossa vs Diablo: tougher call. I prefer the style of the testarossa... but I wouldn't have the nerve to own one due to the tranny/diff issues.

These would be closer in terms of price if that is a consideration.

Perhaps he's not interested in a Countach?
I don't mean that as a smartass reply either. It just seems to me that our TC is looking to be a potential buyer.

Well, maybe we could hook him up with LRPMAN; he has one for sale in the Boxer/TR section.

I will stand by my original point; I think it really depends on a deep analysis of the two cars. And what the buyer truly expects to have from them.

While they may look to be much the same to an outsider, in reality they are as different as Secretariat was from Barbaro.

Having previously owned a 512TR that ended up having tranny issues, I'd take a Diablo. If I recall correctly, Diablo's of the same vintage were a bit faster 0-60.

Early Diablos have proven to be quite robust. And without all the electronic nannys, they are a drivers car.

The T/R is easier to live with

A well sorted 91/93 Diablo, is most likely less money to keep up with mechanically - it has no belts to change out.

    Both cars are fully depreciated

Both cars are supercar exotic GT's - they both have the same mission

The Diablo is more exotic, based on less production #'s.

The Diablo is a genuine 200mph car.

The early Diablo is less refined.

Both cars have poor factory brakes. Brembo sells brake rotors for both the Diablo and T/R.

    Buy the car you like.

The wife wants the TR, my boy wants a Diablo, my daughter wants the Gallardo and me, I wanted a 308 originally but thought about a 348 that a buddy of mine is selling then back to a 308. Then I saw a Diablo in LA last week while looking at a TR and that made it especially harder for me. Im so confused! I wish I could just buy one of each!!! AAAAARRRGH!! :D

I considered his but I really want an early TR, (hopefully) an '85 high mirror.

Had a Countach for 1.5 days back in (summer) '91. The lack of power amenities and the silly half windows killed the experience for me as driving in the California valley baked me literally. I bought it for a Japanese friend who paid nearly double of what I bought it for! :D

You could probably pick up a TR and a 308 for the price of a Diablo...just a thought.. :D

Exactly! That is what I was thinking too! Diablo, Gallardo, TR, 308...that is a pretty diverse group. Go 308 AND TR and be VERY, VERY happy!

    YMMV!

Good for you - I am still glad I got an '86, and you will have the added benefit of manual seat belts.

In a perfect world, I would get one of each but with the new business (and a new house under construction), that is probably unlikely. If I do get a 308 and "Hot Rod" it the way I planned on originally, I would probably end up spending the same amount as a late model, near perfect TR. The choice for me (at the moment) is either a Gallardo or an early Diablo. Im leaning towards the latter (the look and the sound stole my heart and captivated me!). I will still get a "project" 308 and/or an early TR but at a later date, when I dispose of a few more bikes or the condo, whichever comes first! :D

A buddy of mine owns both a Ferrari Testarossa as well as an early Lamborghini Diablo(Which was owned by Mario Andretti) He says in terms of performance the Diablo would spank the TR without a problem but if your just going for a curise the TR is a great choice.

Personally Id rather have the Diablo than a Testarossa.

I bet the gallardo would be more easy to live with on a daily basis, but the diablo is nicer!

I agree w/ this too, but have no basis for it other than the Gallardo was designed and executed with Audi precision!

Diablo I think is the choice, no offence to TR owners. Im still planning on owning a TR in the near future though. Its been a dream car since I first saw the white one that "Sonny Crocket" drove in the series!

The more I see the G the more it reminds me of how "bland" the marque has become. Dont get me wrong, I think their quite capable track tools and looks 1000% better than any Audi but I think I will definitely get a Diablo. Its just a matter of price negotiations now. I'd love to get one dirt cheap but I do want something with a bit of service history. Mileage is not a major concern but I dont want one with over 25K's on the clock. Im currently scheduled to go back to LA to look at the Diablo I checked out last week. The owner will be present and a drive to the shop (for inspection/PPI) will be an event that I cannot wait for!

I guess I am older than you. I have got past the need to stand out with huge flash and bang when it comes to cars. I like the look of the G and frankly I like the look of Audi's. I HATE the look of virtually ALL the new BMW line though... That is why they make BOTH types of cars because some like chocolate and some like vanilla.

I hope it is everything you want it to be and that you drive and enjoy the heck out of whatever you end up with!

+1 Nothing from the newer Bimmers came close to how I felt with my old E36 M3!

Amen to that!!! Right now I feel like a 15yr. old girl preparing for her first date! The butterflies in my stomach are going berzerk everytime I see pictures of the car. :D
