    Dear Ferraristi,

I have a couple of questions regarding the flywheel bolts on my 91 US Testarossa.

As per Ferrari, I have bought new bolts. They told me the old ones should never be reused.

Should I use loctite? The F mechanic says no. So may boxer threads on the clutch say to use it. Boxer vs. TR....same application? or is F tech correct...no loctite?

Also what torque spec? I know, I know, I have a chart with the bolt head description and what torque to use...but Ferraris are never logical....so I will ask.

A specific pattern to tighten? ...or just tighten opposites....like a car wheel.

Anyone know of a clutch alignment tool that is NOT $400.00? like Ricambi sells. Advance sells them for $15.00. They say just bring the clutch disc to match up the pattern. Again....Ferraris are never logical....so I will ask...again. :)

    Thanks !

    Shamile,

The Ferrari clutch spline diameter/pilot bearing sizes are very common. Here's the tool that I use on 95% of the cars I see...and works perfectly! Although the price is a bit of a shocker, it's a far better deal than anything out there...

Regarding the flywheel bolts, I use locktight Red as a matter of course, but can't recall ever doing a clutch on a TR, or what it would be so special....I'd wait for a response from someone who has...

    Best,
    David

I use locktite as well but use the lower strength blue. Torque the bolts in an alternating opposing pattern.

When installing the clutch discs the "H" marked on the discs indicate the heavy side. Place the H's as close as 180 degrees apart as you can. Also use the shims supplied with the new clutch , not the old ones.

Ha Ha Fastradio.....ya really got me there. I was expecting $300 or $275....not $ 10.00 ! Thank you for the tip ! They look just like the ones Advance auto sells.

    Thanks Rifledriver....great advice !

    Blue loctite it is !

Actually, I'm using the same clutch..still in good condition. Thanks for the H markings tip. I would have NEVER known about that.

I changed the RMS, pilot bearing and the clutch slave seals. Now I know how to take it all apart, I can do it again when needed. Now to put it all back together...well haven't done that before. If it all still works....great! :)

If I may ask, do you have a specific torque spec that you like?

The TR WSM (page M4) gives:

    Securing flywheel to crankshaft
    M10 x 1.25P
    8.5 daN-m = 62.5 ft-lb

Wow 10 bucks! I bought one just to have one. I made mine, and it took a couple of hours. Just a precision round shaft with one key.

    Dear Ferraristi,

Well, I got the clutch alignment tool today...Yay !

Put it in the hole...too big ( Ha Ha....nasty thoughts abound )

    So....back to square 1.

Anyone know where I can get a clutch alignment tool for my 91 Testarossa ( don't ask Fastradio :D )

    Also,

Can someone please tell me the torque spec of the clutch plate nuts?

The torque spec of the bell housing nuts?

Should I put some white lithium grease on the center spline?

I do have a torque spec chart but every time I refer to it, Ferrari is asking something different. So, I thought I would ask.

    Thanks guys,

    Shamile

Throw the white lithium away. It turns to glue.

Use almost any other light grease but very sparingly.

All those 8mm fasteners are 18ft lbs.

Thanks Rifledriver, I haven't updated this thread in awhile.

Tom Tbakowasky recommended slyglide...a silicone grease from NAPA.

You have always recommended a silicone grease but could never find one. NAPA had a specific silicone grease but superseded it to the sly glide. As per Tom, I put just enough to cover the splines but not too much to fling off with the rotation of the spline.

Sly glide is also used to coat the inside of coolant sleeves to make it come off easier.....a great tip you mentioned in the tech forum but never find a "silicone" grease.

Since this thread, I've had the whole thing back together but then went on to my shifting thread.....of which you have provided some great tips on the turnbuckle adjustment.

    Thanks !
