Aside from pressing the auto button in the central tunnel, I noted that switching from auto to manual occurs if paddles are used for gear change. Sometimes the word "auto" in the rev counter flashes with paddle gear change for a few seconds and it stays in auto. Any thoughts?

Had mine now for three weeks...

Pretty sure it always in Auto and you push the Auto button.

Using the paddle shifters simply overrides current gear selection and then goes right back into Auto.

I drive 90% in Auto Off since it is so much fun.

The amazing thing for me on the Auto was how fast it runs up thru the gears - not the shift time but the time from 1st to 7th... unless you are accelerating hard it takes to you top gear at as low as 35-40 mph..

Only have 400 miles on mine now and have not used either Race Mode or taking rpms above 6500 or so. It is going to be fun

Car starts up in auto as the default and it's disengaged by clicking the auto button.

First thing you need to do after hitting the Starter button.

Reach over and push that damn Auto button to turn the damn thing off. :)

There's regular Auto mode...and if you shift, it will still stay in Auto mode. If you press the button and switch from Auto to manual, and then turn the car off, when you start it up it's in a different type of Auto mode....it shifts on it's own but as soon as you manually shift, it will go into manual mode, just as if you had pressed the button. There's a name for that, but I can't recall what the manual calls it.

Its called Auto easy exit mode and activation is signalled by the word auto with a down arrow in the gear display. Full auto mode doesn't have the down arrow.

At least thats how it works on the F430...

Right, and you have plenty of time because we all know we gotta warm up up the engine even if the car has only been shut down a short time. It really becomes an automatic part of starting the car ( no pun intended ).

Interesting... I assumed it may be related it to how high the rev was with the paddle change in auto, but this was also inconsistent and obviously wrong. I never tied it to the turn off position. I'll try to pay attention to that.

Thanks for all the other replies. What I was trying to describe was getting the car into manual without pressing auto button. Paddle shifting sometimes puts it into manual, just as if you pressed the auto button.
