Beautiful image! To me it looks like first lap racing rather than practice. If so, that contradicts byline from image of crashed car. Maybe we get the answer in July when Guest of Honour Bengt Mårtensson in the 300 SL #37 right behind is shown the picture!
Wonderful picture. This mix of cars and that pavement! Thanks! What happened to Paul Frère? Any information about the accident?
According to the book ecurie nationale belge the accident happened in practice. After qualifying first in class Paul decides to go for the trackrecord and goes out for another stint of four laps. In the last lap, he took a bump full speed, got all four wheels airbourn at a point where he should be braking very heavily. When he hit the road the car drifted off road and turned over. Paul got thrown out of the car and broke his left leg.
Agreed - but my criticizm was not only focussed on the Frère-crash. In general the 750 Monza was not an easy car to drive.
The comments I've heard are all over the place. Kvarnström who raced three of them said they were very different, I think. Grön who raced 0568/M on all possible surfaces said it was a beautifully balanced car...
They are postcards from different years and stickers, the blue ´racecar´ is a terrible attempt by someone not in the know! Cover of 1956? program is bottom right beside track layout illustration. Björn
Lotus at 1957 Kristianstad event with Porsche Carrera GT of Gert Kaiser to the left. Who is in #49 MB 300SL? Not in the entry list. Curt Lincoln TdF #0723 in the distance. Whos 2tone Ferrari 410 SA is parked here? Is it #0497 8 months ahead of being registered in Sweden in a single darker colour? Or another car? Björn Image Unavailable, Please Login
On second thought I think it will be 0489SA of Jan de Vroom who toured Europe that year with this car. He was also present at the 1000 km of the Nürburgring with this car in May. It perfectly matches the colour combination.

Nice in two-tone, does anyone know the colors? Dutch name and registration plates, but his race entry in Kristianstad is USA. Guess one foot in each country. Nice name of owner too, at least in Sweden vroom is how one can spell out the sound of a noisy car in a cartoony way! Björn
Original white/black roof. The licence plate could be from Portugal. The car had a serious accident the year before killing it's Portuguese owner (racing driver) when in a street race against a Pegaso in Spain. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Originally white with black roof and black interior with grey piping. Likely repaired in original specs after fatal accident of Fernando de Mascarenhas. I think it was still using Portuguese plates.
Not to sidetrack us, but early on (1960/61?) I bought a Boano from Rome with that black over white color scheme. After only 5 or so years it was very dated, and I painted the car gold (in retrospect just as bad) to sell it. Wish I could remember which one: 0535 or 0605. Now back to our regularly scheduled program...
Here is a nice film by future Ferrari man Wolfgang Graf Berghe von Trips from his journey to the Swedish Grand Prix and beyond in the very hot summer of 1955. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPMCoJtHqOU Also very happy to announce Ferrari 500 TRC, Ecurie Ecosse Jag D-type, ex-Moss C-type are coming to our event in southern Sweden celebrating the GP coming July! Start - Vram Grand Prix Auto Show
This 1:43rd model - ART072 - is labelled FERRARI 290 MM GP SVEZIA 1957 SWATERS DE VROOM. Can anyone confirm this colour scheme, because it looks very similar to that of Temple Buell's 290 MM. I thought Swater's colour scheme was yellow & black? Can anyone help my confusion? Nathan Image Unavailable, Please Login
