Hi new owner of a 2012 458 Spider. 30K miles all was well until trying to use/ understand this abysmal infotainment system.I have the manuals. Pretty pathetic. Now no button on steering wheel works it, and all buttons on the right panel inop. It will randomly slowly come on and can play music from iPhone via a Bovee, I loaded some discs but it willno longer play them even though the screen shows a track playing. FM and AM are totally blank. I haven't had the chance to try and load some music to the hard drive disc. I ran a Thinkdiag code reader and during testing it shows no errors from the infotainment sections. There are no stored stations where there once were and it will not scan for any even though it shows up on the menu. I like for all systems to work if at all possible and do like some selection of music or radio stations on long drives. The exhaust note gets tiresome on longer drives, so would like for the system to work at least. any ideas appreciated. I have no idea what could have caused this failure, It is like something has been disabled in the setup somewhere. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Have you load tested your battery?

Not yet but will do. I have it on a tender and it charges to full, but when starting cranking voltage drops to 8;5v I suspect it is weak overall. Would that cause the radio to drop out? I can use it on tender as a power supply and keep good systemic voltages but still no radio. If I get a new battery could that possibly resurrect the radio? There is a possibility that I may have caused something to happen before as I was using a code reader and refreshed it somehow and that when I think something happened. I can’t imagine that would lock or damage the radio but strange things happen. Any ideas appreciated. If it is somehow locked is there a way to unlock it? It is not asking for a radio code or anything like that.

I'm thinking 8.5V when cranking means you're battery is bad. A weak/low battery will cause all sorts of gremlins in 458s. I upgraded to an Anti-Gravity because it has the internal jumpstart feature. All this to say, I would load test that battery, and if it's bad or needs replaced then do that, then see if the radio works. After that if the radio isn't operating I don't know what to tell you other than find a shop with a Leonardo to pull codes.

Are trouble codes for the infotainment system logged? That would be nice to see since I have intermittent problems with mine not working. Autozone says the battery is fine but I’m not so sure.

I honestly don't know but I don't see why it wouldn't if some component that ran the radio was no good.

I've started having a similar issue. But it's not all the time. I'm hoping it's the battery (as it's been a bit iffy). But I also may need the NIT repairing (as apparently that's what they do now)

X2 for Anti-Gravity battery. I just got back from a 6 week vacation and a nearby lightning strike tripped several breakers including the garage. So no battery tender for over a month. The battery was dead, but fear not.. a click of the key-fob and I was able to start the car.

My 2012 458 Spider has been at the dealer for this same problem since Tuesday. I had replaced a 2 month old battery that the seller had inserted to make the sale but it was a wet cell that would drop to 8.5 volts at startup (too low). My replacement AGM battery did not solve the infotainment problem. The seller agreed to take it to the Ferrari dealer to try and determine the problem. No reports yet upon any findings causes etc. IMHO it is a Funky Infotainment system. If found inoperative and dealer quotes some outrageous fee to replace/repair infotainment/radio I'm going to pass on that. It is going to an audio center for some other enhancements and they will put in a system that will at least stream and apple car play using the right side TFT screen for maps, and camera images. That is my go to if all else fails. Good luck with yours and please post any findings as I will also.

Audio enhancement will be doing it. Nothing to report yet.

NOPE, no word from the dealer yet re: inop radio head unit. I'll call tomorrow. If they say I need a new expensive Ferrari radio for boku bucks I'm done with it. I will have a Bluetooth unit placed in glovebox in place of disc drive and HDD and stream to it. The audio shop has to have the instrument cluster modified to enable the front and rear cameras to display on the right TFT screen. The dealer did fix the AC center vents (Wired Wrong) from aftermarket stereo installation and the brake recall with software upgrade.

Finally heard from the dealer. The car has an aftermarket stereo added prior to my purchase. An Audison system. Dealer removed power from that system and performed a complete battery reset, and reinstalled power hookup to sound system and radio is working again. I'm having a few other things corrected by dealer, then going to Audio shop for further enhancements esp backup and front cameras, etc, plus alignment/balance of sound system. Here's hoping all remains well. That is all I know so far.
