The stone chip protection film has discolored on my 430. I checked with a local body shop about removing it and replacing with new and they raised the concern that since it's been on so long, it may remove the paint.

Has anyone tried removing this film? Or, is there anyway to clean it?

Removed mine and replaced with modern PPF. No issues. From what I’ve heard, it’***** or miss. Perhaps I just got lucky. I went to a local detailer I trust that does a ton of PPF work.

Isn’t an issue, unless panel was repainted prior to film install.

Otherwise, a quality detail shop can rather easily remove the film with steam and/or heat.

I’ve done it myself with a hairdryer, pulling off slowly on an angle. The PPF adhesion on paint can be also be easily removed. I used citrus degreaser.

You do need to be careful. Re-painted or original paint, it could pull the paint when removed. Ferrari Paint is very thin. I think AmmoNYC has shown a good technique that I want to try on the 10 year old PPF on my GT3 using an electric tea kettle and some towels this winter.

I wouldn’t take it to a body shop for that, take it to a place that specializes in PPF as they’re more versed in taking old stuff off. Had mine taken off and replaced with new as well. No issues.

Be very careful. I had two heart attacks watching a very experienced PRO remove my old film. I was lucky, but he told me many stories of Ferrari owners that were NOT so lucky. This guy does cars worth ten times what my car is worth, so he's done em all. I will never put PPF back on.

My PPF guy who is very experienced (Singer uses them) told me to leave the old ppf on my scud alone. Even with steam and extra care they have seen ppf pull oem Ferrari paint on a number of cars.

I had luck making them new again by using 3M polishing compound with a towel.

Don't sweat too much.... a bit of heat and they come right off. If they don't you might need some elbow grease as you will peel off 2mm at the time as it breaks when you try to pull it.. but it always comes off. I then use some glue remover from advanceauto and remove the goop on the paint... Done this 5 times + . PPF still beats no PPF when you talk about high wear areas.
Repainting a front bumper is more expensive than ppf covering price wise , and I like to have original paint there and everywhere.

If you don't have the skills take it to a specialized PPF show, they'll know what to do.

I do my own PPF on bumpers on all my cars, I never pay the 600 bucks quoted.... Won't look as good, but it doesn't need to. It does the job to protect the bumper.

Removing the original PPF was the first thing I did when the 360 showed up. Front (hood, fenders, bumper, headlights) as well as the areas shown. It was a full day endeavor, largest piece that came off was the size of a quarter.

What worked best was a steamer, plastic razor blades, and Rapid Remover.

Use the steamer to heat up the film, then break out the blades and carefully scrape. And repeat (over and over again haha). Once you get a section done, use the Rapid Remover to get the adhesive off.

You will go through a lot of blades…Amazon sells a kit with a hundred blades and a couple scrapers/holders. To remove the adhesive, I tried a bunch of things….Rapid Remover worked the best by far.

My 360 gravel guard film looked exactly like yours @GatedRed430, but with some heat and a plastic scraper (and one slowly consumed beer) I was able to get it off w/o issue. As @Mario Andretti says, it will come off but your patience may thin before it does.

The white areas are tiny chips resulting from breaches in the film. The white line was an area I had used the 'eraser' that attaches to a drill. Glad I did a test spot, but I have the matching paint also. Will do all the touch ups and reapply the film as clearly it was doing its job.
