Haven't posted in a while here. As expected, my interior buttons are starting to get sticky. Winter in NY is a good time to tackle the easier ones.

1 - How do I remove the buttons on the steering wheel? Does the wheel have to be taken apart?
    2 - HVAC controls...how do I remove the unit
3 - Trunk/gas door buttons. How does this come off?

I can figure out the center console buttons as that seems straight forward as well as the glove box button. The dash I won't tackle on my own. I will have someone do that to gain access to vent controls and dash pod top.

    Thanks in advance!

Not an answer for your question but useful wrt sticky buttons.

One of the dealers told me to use some baby powder on buttons on Ferrari and other cars.

I just dust some (very little) powder on every few months and dust it off with a soft brush. I don’t use any cleaning products other that water on a damp cloth on my buttons.

My car is now 9 years old and the buttons look great still. They are not 100% as new , but definitely close to it.

By the way I live in a hot climate so this does seem to work as I believe that’s what cause the breakdown over time..heat.

How would baby powder keep them from being sticky?

It can't, his parts just have not turned yet. Once they do, no amount of baby powder will help...

We are doing about 6-8 entire 458 interiors each week, they are getting sticky like crazy.

I used rubbing alcohol on some of the buttons. No need to remove them. A cotton q-tip works great.

Anyone trying this, be aware. The coating on most buttons is coated on the sides down lower then you can reach with a Qtip, over time that stuff will leak down into the electronics causing way more issues, as well as the alcohol or cleaner causing corrosion over time, just FYI. Seen it 100 times...

Mine are starting to stick too.

Ferrari ft lauderdale quoted 6k to fix.

For that price I'll live with them for now until I find a cheaper alternative.

It's a bit ridiculous imo, they should shoulder the cost.

StickyRx has done at least 3 of my cars and their work is pure perfection.

At first I tried the Neutrogena make-up remover. But the sticky disease progressed. I then went to the alcohol cotton pads.
It’s a lot of work since basically this coating is everywhere and not just the buttons. The air vents (be gentle so as not to break them), the roof / windshield console/ mirror, door card bezel around the door pocket, the steering wheel cover, and central display console.

It took several large boxes of alcohol wipes and many many hours of cleaning and follow-up cleanings (The coating is rather thick and requires time for the deeper layers to soften and get sticky).

I am satisfied with these results.

Will my F8 develop sticky disease?

Hopefully the coating industry has taken note of the sticky pandemic. My desk electric stapler, my USB sticks, fancy LED flashlight, high end Logitech mouse all became sticky. I used alcohol pads.

Everyone is sidetracked here. The question from labman was not how to refinish the sticky buttons but how to remove them. Anyone?

You have to remove the entire cluster. That is not so easy when you are dealing with the inside mirror, display cluster, door pockets, steering wheel, steering wheel enclosure, power seat buttons etc etc

No one here took the parts I listed out themselves? I find that hard to believe. I guess 458 owners for the most part just bring to the dealers. I guess I'm going to have to tinker with these myself and figure out how they come off and send them out.

I asked the same a while back as the turn signal buttons annoyed me.

I couldn’t find any info on taking the steering wheel apart and the air bag gave me hesitation. I ended up just having the dealer replace turn signals.

Definitely need to have all mine pulled and sent in to be refinished

There are many threads on rhe forum concerning sticky buttons, removal and repair options. I did my 458, repaired some myself and sent some off for refurb.

Despite the temptation to do it yourself, "A man's gotta know his limitations"

The airbag in the steering wheel demands both respect and knowledge.
I would be very careful when it comes to airbags. Better leave that to the trained technicians

If an airbag goes off in your face the damage to you and the car are too high a cost

I'm sure your dealer has a solution for you. They may even suggest some things you could do too

I could see an issue if a person literally dripped the alcohol solution onto the buttons and it ran down inside. I carefully moistened the cotton q-tip just enough to do the job. I doubt what I did would 'cause corrosion' as you said. For what it's worth, my dealer quoted $3700, but that was two years ago, so it's probably $5k in today's money.
