Difference between him and lebron is I believe lebron can better force his teammates to play harder than steph can. leb can keep a nudnick like jr smith in line better than steph could. Maybe its bc leb is physically intimidating and steph is not. No teammate would cross leb, same as with mj. Steph, not so sure yet

other issue is just imagine gsw with leb instead of curry

NBA said he's on his way to get his second MVP. Man, that game last night was awesome. It is truly a jaw dropping performance.

"Stephen Curry has officially earned his second consecutive MVP award following a historic campaign that saw his Golden State Warriors win an NBA record 73 games. In addition, he became the first unanimous winner in the league's 61-year history, earning all 131 first-place votes."

Once again, Steph Curry has made history...Congratulatuons Stephen Curry for being named today, the FIRST EVER UNANIMOUS NBA MVP! Not Wilt, not Magic, not Bird, Not Kobe, Not Lebron, Nor even MJ has ever won Unanimous NBA MVP! I think this cements in stone that Steph Curry has arguably had the best single regular season in NBA history...He got all 131 votes, unbelievable!

if the game of basketball is to put the ball through the hoop then currys season this year is best ever to me. over 50%fg, 45%3pt, 90%ft at 30ppg is the best ever at putting ball through the hoop.

maybe mj and LeBron played better defense. maybe others passed and rebounded better. maybe jabbar sky hook was best single shot ever. but currys numbers at putting ball through hoop from anywhere on court is best. he does inside, mid range, 3pt, and half court

He may be the NBA's MVP, but is he really?

I guess I just view it differently, he went down for two weeks and his team kept winning.

Take away any myriad of players' from their teams and those teams lose, or will lose.

But I guess it is the 'MVP of the league', not 'MVP of a team', and I am OK with that.

You cannot fault the MVP for being on a great team-that is why altogether they have won the most games in a regular season ever. Without Steph, the Warriors would have likely lost the last game and the series with Portland would be tied at 2-2. Golden State won 73 games this season and Portland was just over a .500 team in the regular season, but have a pair of dynamic guards that rank along the best in the league. In the First round the Warriors did get by Houston. Without Curry, the Warriors would be underdogs to the Thunder, Spurs, and Cavs. I would say Curry is very valuable to his team. Being that Curry got every single vote 131/131, the first time in history- I would say that anyone who has watched many of Curry's games this year felt that there was no other choice for MVP. Again, I started this thread months ago to make light that Curry was doing something very special-something Historic-something that none of us have ever seen. Even in Curry's MVP speech yesterday-he stated that what has been fueling him and the rest of his teammates the whole season, is the fact that all the Naysayers have continued to say that the Warriors were Lucky in winning the championship last year, that they somehow they did not earn the championship. They were not shy in stating that this year they wanted the season beginning consecutive wins record, consecutive wins record, season wins record, and Curry always stated he wanted to beat his previous 3 point field goal record. Most of all they want the championship and are still fighting and clawing for it...We are watching greatness before us...something we can all tell our grandkids about...If you blink, may miss history happening right before your eyes.

I'd like to look at this a different way.

If you were building a team, RIGHT NOW, would you start with:

    Steph Curry or Lebron James.

I'd do it with Lebron, best two way player in the league, a powerhouse, and still under 30 years old.

If I couldn't have Lebron, then I'd go Steph.

Lebron is 31...And has a ton of mileage on him as he started playing in the league at 18 and has had a lot of deep post season runs.

Until Curry wins a dpoy or at least a 1st team all defense, he isn't in the conversation of best ever or greatest season ever.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he's not in the conversation, damn he's good,
but I am just used to seeing a 'star' go down and then having his team
lost 9 out of 10, or 16 out of 20, or go from a playoff team to one that
doesn't come close to the playoffs.

Saying this, You probably have not really watched any of Curry's games.

While not being the dpoy or 1st team all defense, Curry is a very good defensive player as he lead the NBA in steals this year and is on a team that Has been at the top or near the top of the charts in team defense for the whole year.

Everyone marvels at Curry's offense, specifically his 3 point shooting prowess-as he is undeniably the Greatest of all time in this category).

However, He does so many other things well besides shoot 3's. He is at or near the top of the league in points per game, free throw shooting percentage, assists, rebounds for guards, scoring efficiency, and steals. He has some of the best dribbling skills that you will ever see from a true point guard. He has changed the landscape of he game to where he has extended the defense to having to consistently guard up to half court-you really have to do this or he will kill you.

He just won The only unanimous MVP vote, won 73 games, and on many occasions didn't play the 4th quarter due to Warrior blowouts- and you still think he hasn't had one of the greatest individual seasons?

Other teams have resorted to using illegal methods to stop him. He consistently gets fouled hard in when he takes it into the paint and rarely gets the "superstar" foul call like a James Harden or Lebron James. If he did get these calls he would be averaging closer to 40 points/game. Off the ball he is held on EVERY SINGLE series when he tries to get open-again rarely is this called.

Oh well, everyone has there opinion...

Curry is hands down the MVP. No question. I've watched a lot of his games this season and fortunately one in person (unfortunately resulting in my Magic losing). No one can compare to him. He takes over a game so effortlessly you're shocked to hear how many points he scored by the end. The last guy that did that IMO was Jordan. Well deserved and I hope he has a long and injury free career. He's great for the game.

I've watched quite a few of his games this year and he's an absolutely amazing shooter and a good defender.

However, I also watched a ton of Jordan's games and he would take over games at times, on both sides of the floor, the likes of which I have never seen before or since. Case in point is the last minute of his last championship where he scored on a driving layup, then stole the ball and scored the last basket of the game to win it. It doesn't get more high stakes than that and it doesn't get any better performance wise than that. It just doesn't. When Curry can dominate on the defensive side of the ball (notice I say when, not if, as I think he has it in him), then we can talk about greatest of all time (season or otherwise). Right now he's not there. Yet.

It's fine if you think MJ is the greatest and has had the greatest individual season of all time and many will agree with you. What you said in an earlier I post is that Curry isn't even in the conversation for having the greatest season of all time...I still contend that he definitely is in this small group of players that can be spoken about in this breath...

Once again Steph Curry takes over the came in crunch time...closing out the Blazers with BIG time shots in big time situations...He is like a shark that smells blood in the water...There are many players who are elite scorers, but Curry-like MJ has the killer instinct to take over the game and secure the win when his team needs him to...

When you're that good and efficient offensively, you don't need great individual D to win games or a championship. D these days is limited. No hand check, lots of ticky tack fouls. In one on one situations, advantage clearly goes to the offensive player. Defense isnt as impactful in NBA basketball as it is in football. Best you can really do is put a player in uncomfortable situations and hope he shoots poorer than usual and that psychological type of D doesnt show up on the stat sheet.

Curry is hitting his ridiculous contested 3s as consistently as Jordan was hitting his post-up fadeaways. But 3s are worth 50% more than 2s. I personally dont think Curry is better than MJ because MJ was the package and had a boss presence on the court. It felt like he was everywhere. But there's no denying Curry racks a significantly higher effective field goal percentage than MJ ever did. Jordan was dominant in a ball hogging fashion, and rightfully so. Curry does it just as good, but in true point guard fashion elevating his teammates' efficiency. Jordan was also surrounded by better players. The warriors play with better team chemistry. When Curry is on the court, every one of his teammates is deadly. With the Bulls... Down the stretch in do or die situations it was MJ or bust. Just different type of players, but both very effective. They're money when they have the ball. I can't say the same for other superstars over the last decade or so. They call Kobe, "The greatest closer in the game." I personally don't think Kobe is even remotely close to being as clutch a Curry.

Kobe is a volume shooter, which I cant stand. Same as melo. I like high percentages of makes and curry is unparalleled at that. I will keep repeating his % of 90, 50, 45. Never done with 30 ppg in nba before now

as someone who saw mj in person numerous times, I say hes best athlete to ever live. But difference with him a curry was mj intimidated you. He looked like a terminator robot in person. Curry looks like a bank teller. Mj would shoot clutch free throws with his eyes closed to freak out opponents! Mj is the one and only, but if curry keeps this up....

Love reading everyone's comments, exciting sports stuff here! I agree with everyone who is comparing MJ and Curry. These two in particular are in my opinion, the NBA's greatest and the similarities in their impact and dominance are awesome to observe. And agreed Curry needs to keep it up another year or two to really achieve the legendary status given Jordan. Don't ever forget Jordan in his prime, he was just insane. Kind of like when Messi got on those crazy scoring binges in Europe past few years. Now there is another one for comparison...

    ^^ Agreed, great thread.

Have an MJ highlights DVD somewhere. Talk about a one man highlight reel! Didn't know he shot from the line with his eyes closed on occasion though - Wow! Before my time, but didn't Rick Barry do the same? As noted, if Steph can keep it up for another couple of seasons, he'll have to join the discussion.

As for Messi, my boys, who follow it a lot more closely than me are adamant he's already the GOAT. Some of the stuff he does is simply awe inspiring.

Incidentally, the UEFA Champions League final is coming up May 28th. If you only watch one soccer match this year, I strongly suggest it be this one.... The very best of the best in the world (Real Madrid & Atletico Madrid) going at it. Messi & Ronaldo to name just two. Should be *epic*........

    Cheers,
    Ian
