Factory quality blinker fluid should be changed every 150,000 blinks but when the blink counter jams you're looking a major bux. And big trouble if the left blinker is used more than the right as the blinker balancer adjustment requires an expensive tool. According to the manual, if right blinks exceed left it's ok unless the fluid is dirty or revs exceed 7k for more than 2 parasecs.

 

My counter is broken so I need to change the fluid every other 3rd year. I do have a problem with my electrical harness leaking smoke once in a while. But I have been using this after market smoke sealant to solve the problem. It is made by 3M and you can get it in colors to match your car.

 

I changed my blinker fluid in my Audi only a few weeks ago. Apparently BMW driver's never need their fluid changed. A local garage recently had a 1988 3-Series in for a service and the blinker fluid was as good as new.

 

Yes, often non-BMW factory trained mechanics will overlook carefully measuring out no blinker fluid then adding in the correct manner.
A certified BMW service center with the correct factory tool to measure exactly that correct amount is essential to smooth running. In fact, not carefully adding none will breach your warranty.

 

Question.

Since my wife has stopped using her blinker all together and instead utilizes the cell phone from garage-door-up to garage-door-down, must I still change the blinker fluid?

In other words, is there a mileage limit independent from the 150k blinks limit?

 

My understanding is you can pay a little more for the synthetic Blinker fluid, which helps to keeps the blinks at
a much faster rate when its below 30F out. Probably not a bad idea during the winter months to swap to the
synthetic stuff at the same time you are getting your wiper blades sharpened.

Yes, I too had mine sharpened just before the winter. I now have a disclaimer sticker on my "A" pillar warning the car wash boys that I accept no responsibility if they injure themselves whilst cleaning my car. You can't be too careful nowadays, what with the no-win, no-fee ambulance chasers out there.

if you are not using the correct tool, you will ruin the katana edge...just a warning mind you but, well, you've been warned.

There is a repair kit for this. It is a package that contains a pair of sissors and a small roll of check engine light (black electrical) tape. There are instructions on how to make the repair. Good luck

 

Common problem on most Lexus, Volvo and SUV models, as well...

(Don't take this thread too seriously. Blinkers don't need fluid. It's not like changing out your exhaust air freshener, which is actually important.)

i restored a 1935 olds 6 which had only 1 blinker on the driver's side.
the ruby glass lens was unobtainium if you broke it. the real mccoy came in a yellow box!

 

The last time I changed the blinker fluid in the 308, I read the fine print on the bottle. It said that if you change your blinker fluid yearly, it will extend the life of timing belts indefinitely. Now, I know the reference on the bottle was primarily intended for Japanese imports, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work on Ferraris as well. Think of it, you might never have to change a timing belt again!!

if you'd read the even finer print you will have noted that it does not prevent premature seizure of tensioner bearings
peculiar to ferraris.

 

Wow, I can't believe the difference a simple change of fluid could have on my blinkers. If fact, I'm going to try some in the flux-capacitor this weekend to see what impact it might have on that too.

 

No No No.....the finer print mentioned using the fluid on the muffler bearings to keep them from seizing
