I have a 1989 328GTB (with ABS brakes). I am trying to find out what kind if steering wheel I have - MOMO, Nardi, or ... On the back of the steering whee it says: F MADE IN ITALY 11-88 I have attached a picture. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks stock to me. Sans, MOMO stamp. Monte Carlo is close. Here's my pic. 83 308. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Monte Carlo is close, but not exactly the same. I've had them in a couple cars and the wheel rim is different (oval cross section, different finger scallops), and the leather covering is different. The stock Ferrari wheel is much better IMO. My '85 has a small MOMO logo on the lower spoke, strange the 328 doesn't?
That's a Momo (If you are ever unsure about a wheel, the Momo have a screw at the 12 position. Nardi's don't)
Its a MOMO - i have a Montecarlo in suede on the car, and my original wheel haning in a frame on my garage wall...
It's a MOMO. Late cars had a different wheel from earlier ones. The earlier cars had a wheel that MOMO called the "veloce" at the time. Notice that besides the absence of MOMO badging on the bottom spoke of the wheel, the loop above the top spokes is larger than the earlier type wheel (MOMO "veloce") that was used on 308 Quattrovalvole -1988 328. The MOMO "montecarlo" is similar to the old "veloce" wheel, but has a more anatomically sculpted grip, and is not offered with the white stitching that the "veloce" from the 80's had.
This^ MOMO Veloce 76-79 Nardi 80-82 2Vi MOMO Montecarlo 83--- Side note, the MOMO Montecarlo was a relatively inexpensive aftermarket item back in the late 80's early 90's. I was a big watercooled VW guy then and every large aftermarket parts supplier offered a full range of MOMO wheels in their catalogs. I actually bought a montecarlo for my Scirocco in about 92 and it is still on it. I think it was about $150. The only difference is the leather covering is a bit more grainy. The Ferrari wheel leather is very smooth.
And remember the rule of thumb. If you are unsure of the wheel make, the Nardi has screws on the top at 11 and 1 o'clock and the MOMOs have one at 12 o'clock
Is it likely that Ferrari just used what was available from their supplier? If it had the Momo name on it, fine. If not, that was fine too, as long as it fit. So some cars have the Momo name, and some don't?? I know many of the foreign car companies did that. Jaguar was notorious for substituting parts during assembly from one car to another when they ran out of parts for a particular model. As long as it fit and it worked, it didn't matter to them. Makes for some interesting variations when you are trying to do a restoration.
I am not sure what the 1975-79 MOMO "silver spokes" item was called... The 1983-1988 item Ferrari originally installed was called "veloce"...Montecarlo has the same spokes, but has a different (slightly more sculpted grip) most 3X8 owners replace their worn "veloce" item that is no longer available with a "montecarlo" that is VERY similar.
You know, I think you are right. I forgot about the little places for your hand to fit in. You wouldn't really know it to look at it, you have to hold it. That is how the on is in my Scirocco. I never really thought about that until now. Thanks
When my MOMO steering wheel is upside down, it says OWOW. Probably didn't answer teh OP question, though. Doug
Last spring I bought this Sparco wheel. It is a deep dish suede wheel that was plug and play The momo hub supports many brands. Image Unavailable, Please Login
