Just as the question, but with a twist. First, any black stalks on Dino? If not, can same be used on a Dino, as anyhow the functions appear to be the same (I think), and which series? The all are Vitaloni (what I have) yet, on the L series, and it appears original, it is silver stalks. On the E series, and also original (maybe), black stalks. I have two sets mounted on the respective two steering columns, and two spares and have no clue if any work properly. On the plate behind the steering wheel hub where the pivots are, part numbers do not make much sense, at least to me. Can someone shed a light? Regards, Alberto
Hey Alberto, The stalks on my Tipo E are silver. Those on my friend's old Tipo M were silver. I believe that silver is correct for 206 and 246. I checked out a bunch (206, L, M and E) on Sheehan's Ferraris Online & they are all silver. http://ferraris-online.com/pages/sold.php?pg=5 begins with a 206. You can click through several pages that include beaucoup 246 examples. I looked at other sources of pics, including this forum, and...silver rules. That's just my observation. The folks in the know will chime in shortly to give us the informed answer. I saw black stalks on a 512BBi and 308 QV. They may be functionally correct, though. Again, we'll have to wait for the real answer. Check with Birdman; he refurbishes 'em, can ops check them and may even have spare silver stalks. Cheers, Coop
Alberto, Get with Verell at unobtanium supply. He is the expert. He did a great job restoring mine. The stalks are silver. Scott
Thanks for the correction, Scott. Yes, Verell's the man. Birdman is the fuse block supplier for 308s. Coop
Hello Alberto, for the 206/246 GT/GTS we have 3 different steering column light switch assemblies. They are all from Vitaloni, all with silver stalks. Which number belongs to which series you will find in the Dino Compendium. Yours with black stalks should fit (same functions) for mid/late E-series (from #04832) Regards Matthias
Funnily enough, I posted mine to verrel only yesterday for restoration and it cost an absolute fortune to post from the UK and to insure it's value at a £1000, which i believe is not really quite enough to replace it in todays market? Graham
It depends on the switch. £1000 is about right for the most recent silver stalk black body switch in good condition. The older white body switches with the petal knobs are almost impossible to find, and I've seen them go for almost twice that. BTW nerodino, your switch just arrived. 'Gards, Verell
Any diff between 365 2+2 and 365 Daytona steering column light switch assemblies? If so, which is correct for a Euro Dino? BTW, Verell, for many years I lived in Pepperell and a dear friend of mine still lives in Groton. Would that qualify me for a restoration discount?
I'm not sure, Both the 365 2+2 & Daytona used the white body switch (1st picture below). I'ves seen both chrome & satin silver stalks on the white bodied switches, don't know which model they originally came from. The 330 GT & 2+2 also used that switch. I believe both had chrome stalks with slightly different bends than the 365s. To the best of my knowledge all Dinos had satin silver stalks. I just restored 2 of the early ones this fall, & have one enroute. Sorry, Restoration is 90+% labor, so no discount, but I'd have to charge MA sales tax. ;^) The petal knob stalks were on the earlier series, the later E-series used the same square cross-section knobs as the 308. The only diff I can see in pictures between the 365 2+2 and 365 Daytona units is that one has a down arrow on the headlight switch whereas the other has the word "LIGHTS" on it (plus a little headlamp symbol). So I wonder if the down arrow one is more correct for a Euro Dino since everything else in my car seems to be in this funny foreign language (e.g., BENZINA).
Thank you Verell, Just found another thing that is wrong on my L. Matthias's book confirms it. I am really about ready to put a pox on the "Dino expert and a 'judge' to boot" and his continuous affirmation about the car being 99.5% complete when he described it. I know, I know, all my fault... One of these days he will get all his "Dino expertise" put to good work in "La Divina Commedia"...I forget which 'Girone'. I apologize for my ramblings. Thank you all for your patience. Regards, Alberto
Early 365GTB/4 and 365 2+2 have the same switch white body (2 speed wipers) Late 365GTB/4 and 365GTC/4 have the same switch as late Dino (black body) Early 246 Dino (white body) one speed wiper is NOT same as Daytona or 365 2+2 i have seen early 246 switches with only arrow on headlight switch, 246 did Always have silver stalks, switches with black stalks are 308 on pic is the difference between early and late 246 switch this are still N.O.S parts, the early switch have not been available for more than 17 years i have 4 N.O.S switches ............. peter Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just spoke to Verell, and it turns out that the L series switch I have, is not only the wrong one as being for a later car, but it looks wrong on the side openings of the carrier, as they are at 10ish and 10 instead of 9 and 3. Anyone so kind, please post both photos of the side openings of the carrier, vis-a-vis the static position of the stalks, in an L series with the petal shape ends? On mine, both side openings look strange, too large with this switch, as stalks/openings in the wrong position . I am planning to try and remake the carrier in another material and adjust the openings (disguise) properly, and with the change of the petals for the knobs, it should look better. Actually it should look just as an E series that has smaller openings. Thank you. Regards, Alberto
Then can you identify what version this one is? Note the center `cap' is white on the white body, whereas in your pictures that `cap' is only black. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Umm, guess I wasn't quite clear. The pivot points for the white body stalks are at roughly the 10:00 and 2:00 position (ie: are NOT 180 degrees apart). The 308 style black body switch has the pivot points at 9:00 & 3:00 (ie: 180 degrees apart. I don't know if there is significance to the black turn cancel ring vs the white one on the white body switches. To be honest, these pictures are the first time I've ever seen a black one. I would have to hve a black & white turn cancel ring side by side to see if there is any difference. It could be as simple as they were out of the white plastic the day they molded them & so used the black plastic. A key question is the number of wiper stalk positions (2 - on & off or 3 (2 speeds & off)?
Thank you Verell. I meant 10 past 10, that's a direct translation from Spanish. My bad. We would normally say 9 and 15, instead of 9 and 3, that one, by some fluke I got right... The question remains the same requesting photos, and as they are also on M's, it increases the population that might post a photo, or two. Regards, Alberto
Question for Verell really i guess............Are the turn cancel rings available? mine is cracked, glued it up but not briliant!
Is there a dependency between the rotating stalk which turns on the marker lights and its 2 down positions to trun on the headlights? Do the marker lights need to be on to turn on the headlights?
The rotating handle on the stalk does not just turn on the marker/parking lights. It turns on the lights, period. It is the main switch for all the lights: Marker/parking lights, headlights and instrument lights. The position of the stalk determines which type of lights you will get: Marker/parking lights only, marker/parking lights plus low beam or marker/parking lights plus high beam. Note: Applies to the US version, at least.
it appears to be the early 246 switch for one speed wiper, (one turn on right arm, daytona have 2 turn ) never mind the black or white cap they are same exept for the color
alberto the early switch (white body) with one speed wiper one turn on right arm 10 and 2 belong to the carries with no color on (left) the late switch black body 2 turn on right arm 9 and 3 belong to the carrier that is black they can not be changed without cut and weld on carrier and wiring is not the same there was 3 different variant on wiper motor Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Which body color switch do you want a turn cancel ring for? The white body switch I'm pretty sure I have a cancel ring, so could make a mold fairly in 2-3 weeks. There were several variations of the black body switch cancel ring: - No horn contact ring - already have a mold for this one. - Horn contact ring mounted with 3 rivits - Don't have a mold, but can drill & mount your contact ring to the no horn contact ring one. - Horn contact ring mounted by tabs that go thru slots in the cancel ring's plastic. - Would have to make a mold, or machine the slots in the no horn contact ring one. I'm currently not setup to make the horn contact rings, so would need to transfer yours to the new cancel ring. I do have a couple of ideas on how to make them, but they would be pricey as I would have to make some tooling. Would have to check, but I may have some good used one or 2.
Verell, Thanks i should have been more clear! It's for 07528 which i sent you in the post the other week. Regards Graham
