Wow... a potentially huge mistake on Roethlisberger's part. Most NFL contracts are voidable if the athletes participate in dangerous behaviors/pastimes.

Im sure the contract goes into detail what "Dangerous" is. I dont think riding a motorcycle is dangerous. That would mean driving a car is dangerous. Diving is dangerous. Heck, being a quarterback in the NFL is dangerous. Ask Joe Theisman or Troy Aikman.

Ordering Chinese food is dangerous. So is eating Sushi and crossing the street.

I just read about it. What kind of a bike was it, Harley? People just don't see bikes in these cases.(I learned that the hard way) Stick to 4 wheels.

Suzuki Hayabusa. It was given to him in exchange for appearances at Suzuki dealers.

Yea, it is. Subconciously people don't see a smaller object like a bike in some cases. Their subconcious is looking for bigger objects, the size of a car for example. They've proven this through scientific research. This simple fact puts you at a risk and huge disadvantage every time you go out. Hopefully this guy recovers OK but I'd bet his career is done.

Did you read that this is what he was riding at the time? If he's into bikes I'm sure he'd have an assortment of different ones. BTW, I suspect that they purposely don't name the brand because of the bad PR. Just a guess.(they mentioned what kind of car hit him in the article I read)

The link in DMC's post says it was a Hayabusa. The small picture wouldn't enlarge when clicked. It looked like a silver Gixxer to me at first, but Hayabusa made sense, too.

Edit: Looking at the pics a second time, that's definitely not a Hayabusa. It's way too small.

Update from the previous article, I'd say he has a pretty good chance of his career being over.

Same article says he was riding a 2005 Hayabusa.

Actually motorcycles are on the NFL's "dangerous" list. -- Kellen Winslow lost a chunk of his contract/signing bonus for doing wheelies on his bike two or three years ago.

Most NBA contracts are void if you are in a motorcycle accident. Don't know about the NFL though.

My understanding is that they are not inforceable in the off season.

Frank Parker might be able to comment on this one.

Sure looks like a Haya to me. What used to be the fastest production bike and no helmet. Jeez, that's nuts. Series of pics here: http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/pgStory?contentId=5688350

If he had been wearing a full-face helmet he'd might only have a broken collar bone or similar.

I stand corrected. :) Never seen that pic before, just a bunch of 1"x1" terrible stuff. Not too bright on Ben's part. He wears a helmet on the field, but not on one of fastest bikes. I don't think I'll ever understand that.

Kellen had been to a Starboyz stuntrider show in Akron right before he wreaked doing a stoppie. Starboyz's bikes are covered with fur because they are trashed underneath. I saw them wearing tennis shoes during thier stunts. Great motorcycle mentors for sure.

I saw that pictures and the silver Chrysler it looks like he ran into. Doesnt look like he was speeding. Saw pictures of the blood and oil puddles on the street.

All i read is that he is coherent, he knows what happened and he knows where he is and he is going to be/ is being operated on. For what, i dont know.

Article says PA revoked helmet law in 2003 and he hates wearing them.

Also, Cowher had repeated talks with him about being careful, wear helmet if you have to ride, but asked him to stop.

Also, Bradshaw has told him point blank: "Stop riding! Ride when you retire, not now."

I wish him well. Always seems like a sharp kid with some God given ability and a bright future. I know what its like to be in a motorcycle accident. Can be very scarey when you dont know what just happened to your body and what damage you did/didnt do.

Ben, if youre reading this: Drop the bikes and stick to exotics. Look at the mook in CA that wrecked the Enzo who was obviously going way too fast. He walked away with a few cuts and scrapes.

Doesn't take a lot of speed to do a face plant. A friend did one once on a road bicycle when his front wheel fell off. Extensive damage including a lot of reconstructive face surgery.

No helmet or fake beanie helmet (same thing) = friggin idiot

    no two ways about it.

Says the other driver made a left trun in front of him. Thats a very common set up for a bike accident.

Hes stupid for not wearing a helmet on a bike that goes 0-140 in less then 10 seconds or faster because it does have cans on it and probably has a jet kit and who know what else. I hope he gets better he is one heck of a ball player.
