are spray on cleaners such as meguiars harmful to carbon brakes? wheels are rinsed after applying so assume it is rinsed off CCM as well, but is that good enough? thanks in advance
We use P21S gel, available on Amazon or detail supply websites. Will not harm CCBs and is excellent for removing brake dust and stains.
sonax will set you right P21S is great although I find it not as effective as sonax, but probably a little safer from a chemical standpoint if left on too long.
LOL, I just use whatever Meguairs product I can get at AutoZone, I think it's their purple-bottle All-Wheel cleaner and I have been fine with that. But I don't have CCB's either. However, it does a good job of cleaning my wheels, which don't get too dirty because I clean them about every 4-5 drives.
BMW from 20 years ago had that wonderful wheel cleaner stuff that you spray on, wait, rinse off and the wheel is nice and bright. They have changed to something much less effective and does not work as well. I am still waiting for a good replacement.
I use Sonax but I don't think it really works any better than soap and water. I've not had any success with spray and rinse. I always need to use a microfiber to rub off the brake dust.
I was instructed only to use PS21 GEL wheel cleaner on my ceramic brakes . Seems to work well , my wheels and brake system looks brand new .
I agree Dave. Sonax works well but you still have to agitate to effectively clean the wheel. Fortunately ceramic brakes on newer ferraris leave very little residue. You can pretty much use anything on them.
What would you use to get stains out of the inside of an alloy wheel? Image Unavailable, Please Login
If there is no clear on the wheel, you might need to use an acid to whiten those water stains, I use to use muriatic acid on stained wheels.... But be careful... Can damage wheel and you....
I don't know best or safest wheel cleaner for ceramics, but I think sonax wheel cleaner is the best out there, like any of them..you need to agitate any build up...
Acidic cleaners will harm aluminum. They do make a Simple Green for aircraft which is aluminum friendly. Basic cleaners are fine on aluminum. It looks like you may have some oxidation. The best bet (IMHO) is to clean and then polish. You may even need to be more aggressive with some 800 grit (wet) sand paper.
1Z Clourtec is a great wheel cleaner. Works better than Sonax and its a bit cheaper. Will not harm CC brakes as I use it all the time.
The basic formula Simple Green can be corrosive to aluminum. They have an aircraft grade product that is not.
I recommend Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner. It's much superior than Meguiar's. Meguiar's is more acid than Sonax!
