    Hey Fellas,
My 360 came back from service today, and darned it if it didn't come back with some LIGHT swirl marks on the front end (hood and both fenders). I normally follow the accepted 2-bucket wash routine, and I finish my car washes with a quick detailer spray from Zaino - I think it's called Z8 Grand Finale or something like that.

Question is, have any of you used a spray detailer / finishing spray that helps to remove some LIGHT (and I mean VERY LIGHT) swirl marks? I'm not sure how my Zaino stuff is gonna work yet, but I wanted to get your opinions.

Hopefully, you're not all gonna come back and say it needs a full detailing with machine-surface prep etc. Todd @ Esoteric was kind enough to take care of my car at the beginning of the driving season, so I'm pretty confident that the surface is in good shape. Thanks in advance.

PS: Searched and didn't find the answer I was looking for.

All a detailer fluid will do is just help cover it up for a short time and will not "remove" the swirl marks.

The best is just have them buffed out. Not that big of a deal, I bring mine to a body shop when the clear coat has any imperfections. Takes them five minutes (they just buff it out) and most of the time do not even charge me (they REALLY like the car).

A single stage (white pad) buff is all you need. I could do the entire front end in an hour. But, if you have a coating such as 22PLE, you will need to reapply.

If you want to take a trip to Buffalo, I'll do it for you - I will only charge one ride :D

    agree with these comments
a detailer spray will not remove swirl marks
but you could use a Griots, Porter Cable, or Flex polisher/buffer and lightly do it yourself
you could also try a small section by hand to see if that works
can you take photos & post them?

Thanks guys, I do have 22 PLE on the car. I will wash it and apply my finishing spray, to see if that will at least cover up these light swirls. In the meantime, I'll talk to my local detailer to see if he can 'buff it out.' Sounds like the beginning of a You Might Be A Redneck joke!!!
    :)
I'm away from the car right now, but I'll try to post a picture later. Thanks again.

Best advice I can give you is to invest in the tools and supplies. This is beyond easy to do. Best to handle this yourself, especially for on going needs. If you need any help, send me a PM and we can chat.

I had a bird dropping on the hood of my Maserati GT they etched into the paint.... 1 hour over the weekend and it's long gone :)

Ah, swirl marks!!!!!! That means that someone doesn't understand car care! They may have seen Karate Kid too many times! Linear motion only front to back on top surfaces, top to bottom on sides = no swirl marks.

You might try to use some good carnuba wax on that area, in a couple of coats to hide them for a while.

Concur; investing in a decent random orbital polisher would allow you to DIY paint 'issues'.
    And it's fun to do!

Follow up, I wasn't satisfied with the detail spray results, so I put a few coats of polish and a top coat of wax, and now it's back to normal (no swirls / light scratches). I didn't use a machine to polish - I just used elbow grease. Seemed to work OK. Thanks for the suggestions.

I think a spray wax like Meg's Ultimate Quik Wax is what you're looking for. It can function like a detailer and fill in minor defects.

Swirl-X works well. I've used it at least twice on my Miata. It has a mild amount of citric acid in it to help polish out the minor scratches. Don't let it sit on the car too long before buffing.

I use a clear bra (such as 3M). An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If the clear bra gets scratched I use plastic cleaner and polish. Works great.

My biggest regret is they did not clear bra the whole hood...only half on the 458 and Pcar. I have corrected that oversight on my new S4 and the RS4 on order.

PhilNotHill, you can remove the old partial clear bra and have the whole front end done. Its so worth it. Recently a small spec of bird dropping on the trunk of one of my cars (not a ferrari) ate through the clear, paint and down to the primer. No matter how careful we are (and I'm a serious fanatic) s..t happens:)

Thanks for all the helpful tips fellas - I've been vacillating on the clear bra for this car. I should probably just do it - I swear by it on my M5. I just went through and touched up every single nick on my car this past weekend - it made a difference!

I'm just glad those hazy swirls are gone from my paint. She was on TV yesterday, and she looked really, REALLY, REALLY good!!! I had to address the swirls before I let her go out in public, and be filmed as the subject of a news / promo piece!!!

    thank you.

sorry...not trying to steal thread....just want those with dark color cars to know life can be much easier without dealing with swirls/marring/rids etc.

car is a driver (10K a year...now at 56K)...hence the wrap. even the 'satin' black pieces under the front and rear valence as well as at rear of hood have film on them...you can't even tell by looking at it. first black car have ever owned...6 months after buying car swore would never buy another black car. xpel ultimate has completely changed that.

quotes ranged from $4k-10k...my detailer set me up with a guy who did a fantastic install...$5k.

added some cf to interior as well...:)
