Not wrong,if I were to get something of that size it'd be diesel all the way......bit surprisingly I'm not a fast boat driving bloke.
Diesel boats blow up - LPG can accumulate in the bilge. Every enclosed boat should have a bilge blower. I suspect those guys did something stupid while refueling
I've owned and been around diesel boats all my life, never have I seen one on fire. Ordinary vents are enough. Meanwhile, I've watched 2 petrol cruisers go up, one of them 2 berths from my boat. Having an LPG bottle stored below is just stupid. When I has gas bbq's, I kept the bottle in a cockpit locker with vented door.
I had to read a building inspector's report today that was so badly written and so many spelling errors it was barely intelligible... Best bit was the constant repetition of the phrase 'poor workmanship' but spelled 'pour'....
Only one I came across was an old 38 foot Halvorsen that had a couple of V8 Holden's it went up due to poor maintenance ,from memory several died in the explosion ..
exploding petrol boats are almost a monthly event in Sydney every summer. Boats sit on their mooring or on a trailer through winter, electrical systems quietly corroding, fuel hoses rotting, plug leads cracking, etc. Then owners jump on when the warm weather starts, fill up and off they go. So many fires happen at fuel jetties that I stopped using them, had the diesel barge come to me, another $50 on a $2000 fill is worth the extra safety.
That surprises me ,I spent a good 20 plus years most weekends down at the St Kilda marina the home of Caribbean/Bertram boats many petrol plus a very active boat ramp and never came across a petrol boat fire . Are except one , Ferrari owners name supplied on request !
We have a boat burn to the water level every week here on the GC .... I reckon most would be insurance jobs or slack maintenance by the owners
No petrol boats. Poor maintenence plus weekend warriors ends in disaster Should be a mandatory procedure that bilge extraction fans run pre start and during refuel.
I wonder how many petrol boats go up in flames and its not fuel related ,but gas bottle ,gas stove ,insurance ,heater , gas from batteries ,wiring harness age ,micro waves,A/Cond
Yes, I’ve always thought petrol has a lot to do with a petrol fire. Silly signature here to annoy KIAI
