    Greetings,

We recently were in Switzerland, beautiful, beautiful country by the way, with a driving tour. Unfortunately I received this ticket that was just forwarded to me.

Besides the obvious, what does this mean? We are now back in the US. Any idea what the fine might be and how this should be handled?

Looking forward to hearing your advice.

    Juan

I am sure this happens all the time....matter of fact I am pretty sure I made a illegal right turn while there and the camera caught me...I am awaiting my ticket :). Google for an attorney and play the game.

Years ago I also had a speeding ticket mailed to me here in California, and I paid it by check, made the check payable to Police Department, Switzerland, easy, but my wife received one, she didn't pay it, said that they would forget about it, but the next time she traveled and landed in Zurich, when clearing immigration they would not allow here to enter unless she paid the ticket on the spot with hefty fines and penalties.

I think the main problem is you exceed 30km/h above the speed limit, so it's no longer simply a traffic offence but a criminal one.
I am not a lawyer, this is just my layman's understanding.

In Europe there are agreements between neighboring countries which allow the authorities to pursue the driver within their own legal system.
Being from the US, its obviously different for you. My 0.02c, its worth speaking to a lawyer familiar with Swiss traffic law.

Hopefully someone else from Switzerland might chime in with direct experienec here. Good luck

You MUST hire a Swiss lawyer, fast and quick, and a good one!
32 kms excess speed is very very serious. Swiss citizens would already been in jail and loose their drivers licence for two years.
Measured speed 95 in a 60 zone is heavy, really massive. That's more than half over (35) the speed limit (60) in that zone, which automatically makes this a serious court case.
Was this in a rental car? Or in a car of your own with your own license plate?
The fine will be based on your income. Usually 10 percent, so if your tax declaration states you have an income of, say 300 Grand/year, the fine will be 30 Grand, plus court fees, lawyers, etc.,
And on top of that you will lose permission to drive a car, any car, in Switzerland, for at least two years.
And if it was a rental car, they normally put you on a black list now (Hertz? Europcar? Avis? Budget? Sixt?)
If you show up at any Swiss airport (ZRH, GVA, BSL) in the future you risk to be arrested. Because now you are in their systems.
    Not kidding.

    Good luck.
