I got a speeding ticket (laser) in my daily driver in the tunnel under First Avenue near the UN. Any recommendations for an attorney from this knowledgeable Forum?

I don't believe there is anything you can do about a speeding ticket in NYC. No plea bargaining I heard.

Google Casey Raskob. NY Ducati club used to keep him on retainer...LOL

(Pretty much his entire practice is V+T law...)

Good luck. That idiot Dibasio and his 25MPH limit. And by the UN? So the diplos skate and you have to pay...

I got clipped there once also. The cops just sit at the tunnel exit and clip every car. God forbid after sitting in bumper to bumper traffic you accelerate to a reasonable speed for the brief second you can in that tunnel

Exactly. The speed limit was lowered in NYC to 25mph as a pedestrian protection measure, so the cops run a speed trap in a straight empty tunnel with no pedestrian access.

Thanks for the leads so far. Any others?

I have a Valentine One but don't bother to put it up during my commute to NYC. I'm rethinking that choice.

    Decision made? :)

It's necessary in that tunnel, on the FDR, etc.

    NOT FABIANA TALARICO!

I had a tix two yrs ago going over the Verrazano....some BS that I was going 78 mph (really?)...no radar, nothing...was all the cops word...

Costs were outrageous...ended up losing, paying out the ass, and still got 4pts....

Worse: Florida may pick up on it and the points transfer.
Worse: Insurance ALREADY picked up on it, insurance increased!

I hope you have better luck! Alex.

Around NYC get waze. So many users in the area that most cops are covered.

I was using Waze, and it didn't give me an alert. I had not used this tunnel in many years so I didn't know it was a frequent trap.

Can't help with NY, but I have a GREAT guy for NJ. If anyone in the community ever needs some help across the river, feel free to shoot me a message for his contact info. Saved my butt numerous times when I lived there.

I know that tunnel pretty well because I pass it almost every day. What I do most of the time is bypassing it and go from the top route. Yes you have some lights to worry about but it saves you the aggravation of getting a ticket.

But back to DiBlasio...I got squeegeed (599) on 38th Street for the first time in 20 years coming out of the Midtown Tunnel. That doofus mayor of ours had set back the quality of life that much in a mere 18 months with his stupid "victimless" crime philosophy. The criminals can vote for him next time around.

Wow,I have not seen anyone with a squeegee since Giuliani scrubbed the city back in the 90's. That is a sad regression.

The only ones who don't get any kind of tickets in the city are the homeless people that seam to be everywhere lately.

What's funny about that tunnel (especially in a Ferrari) is that due to the slight curvature of the tunnel, cops can hear you long before they can see you or reach you with laser. The point is, I teased them a couple times by shredding up the first quarter of the tunnel with screamimg acceleration (never going too fast though, just loud!), and then dropped some nuclear downshifts (in the 458 it sounds glorious!!!)... only to slowly coast into view with the exhaust still snap-crackle-popping. They have to stand there helpless watching you crawl by at 25 mph. Did it twice in a row a couple months ago at night. They did not seem to be happy about it.

Don't mess with the cops. My dad saw one with radar and waived to them. They pulled him over at the exit and after a 30 min wait asked him if he thought it was still funny

Hello, Alex....This is the attorney that you unfairly bash in your post. Your ticket was in a forum that does not plea bargain - it is a court that is trial only. I was able to get your ticket reduced to a lower speed from what you were originally charged with - saving you the NY Driver Assessment Fee and higher fines. If you are going to post about your experience with my firm at least have the decency to be accurate and fair and tell the entire story.
