There has been some discussion of audio in Socal to AZ beautiful home project. In my garage I have a decent Sony receiver that I will be using. I plan on hardwiring the speakers to the receiver. I thought about Sonos but the sketchy internet service at the garage precludes a wireless set up.

The garage is approx 60' long and 30' [ave] deep. I figure a pair at each end would suffice for a good sound. I don't want to spend thousands for Klipsch or similar. Approaching 70 my hearing is not as good as it was :(.

Any suggestions for decent speakers? I plan to mount them about 7-8' above the floor to be over the cars or other possible obstructions. Here are a couple of old pics of the interior of the garage.

What will be your music source - may make a difference on how to wire

I always like low cost Polk outdoor speakers

I would consider wiring a speaker volume control on for each set if you want to even sound out

why get speakers, just start one of the cars....unreal music right there. LOL.
I have the small BOSE cube speakers and they are fantastic....tons of clear sound from such a small item. I got the white ones and they are like invisible in the garage....a thought...

If you have a clear line of sight from your home (where I assume the internet is located), you could install point to point system to carry internet to your shop. That’s how my shop is set up, not for audio but to be able to pull up schematics or other diagrams I need to look at. Beautiful shop/collection by the way!

I have a point to point system. House to cabin and cabin to garage. Unfortunately if I have the metal garage door closed the signal is weak. Next week I am going to bury a Cat6 wire from the cabin to a router I will install in the garage. This will alleviate the issue of receiving a signal from the cabin.

Depending on far apart you out them consider stereo single speakers (meaning two channels in one speaker) ..also consider a speaker switch box at receiver( 4 zone) and depending if you will stream from your phone a high power Bluetooth receiver as input to your receiver

I advise you also put in a subwoofer, makes any speakers sound better, I have old Bose 201's with a old school non-powered 12-in sub in my garage, sounds great!

That's a beautiful garage, SCantera. I really like the idea of having a great sound system in the garage but mounting large speakers, running speaker wire, etc. (if you can't go wireless) is tricky to do cleanly in a nice garage...it's the reason I just use a large boombox when I want some music in my garage.

I agree. With such a big area you’re going to need some help with the bass no matter what type of music you listen to.

Thanks for the advice. I will put in a subwoofer that I can place for sound and as well as be out of sight. Wiring is not that difficult due to the log joints. I can hide the wire in the log joint w/ a thin piece of wood trim inside the joint. Did this for some electrical wiring.

Still have not decided on what speaker system to use. I think I will place one pair on either side of the TV to be mounted where the P4 picture is hanging [left side under the Bombay chandelier]. That way with a sound bar I can get some decent surround sound for the TV....good for watching races. The other pair will be at the opposite end [see second picture above] place between the windows. Basically I need two pairs of decent speakers, one sub and a sound bar under the TV. Maybe I will add another small pair for rear surround for the TV.

Both Bose and JBL make PA speakers that are wireless..run on Bluetooth and can be paired in stereo sets..massive bass and midrange.
I suggest you see them..wired with amps is so 20th century!
