On the 328, the plug socket size is 18mm. The OD of the tool kit socket is 1". For the front plugs you need to use just the right extension/socket combination or the tool kit wrench. It is a PIA at first, but once you get set-up it goes ok. Also, you should blow-out the plug holes before your remove the plugs; there can be some dirt in the deep cavities.

    It is 18MM socket
You don't measure plugs from cormer to corner, it is flat to flat

On my '85 308, the 13/16 fits perfectly. The well and plug size must be different for the earlier years. In general, you'll be in good stead to get yourself the proper Ferrari plug socket. Not so much for the rear head, but it makes the job much, much easier for the front bank plugs. Best of luck.

Ria--on a different note, I tried to reach you re: oli lines ( I think it was you?). Anyway, the ones i recommended from Shako didn't work--after 5 min of idling, the line just let go at the fitting and my car, garage and I were rapidly doused with 8.5 qts of oil. I wound up getting OEM oil lines.

Another thought re: the plug wrench-- a thin-walled socket will likely work for you. Just be sure of your plug size.

You will find that both of you are correct about plug sizes, on my 328 the original Champion plugs were the oddball 18 mm size. The plugs have been superceded by a new number which now has the standard small size hex which is 16 mm. So depending on what plugs you have you will need a 16 mm or 18 mm wrench size, could even be some manufacturers who use the common 21 mm size also. For the 328 the special Ferrari wrench fits the 18 mm size.

I use a normal Craftsman 13/16 socket with a universal and short ectension to get the forward plugs out of my 2V 1980 308GTSI, no problems at all.

the 308 plugs should be 13/16--and the best tool I have found for removing them in the Porsche 911 tool--has a knuckle made into it.

on a 328 you go down to the smaller 18mm plug --this one is hard to find but after trying about 12 stores I got lucky artAutozone

I have a whole drawer full of spark plug sockets from different tool kits purchased over the years.

ALL of the 13/16 spark plug sockets - both cheap and expensive - fit just fine on a 1975 2V engine.
