Hey Guys Does anyone have a DIY spark plug removal tool? I'd like to make my own rather than spend $$ on it, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
The best one is the magnetic one out of the factory kit. Or are you talking about the 355 boot removal tool that the banned guy who does the refinishing of sticky interiors made and is now making a less costly plastic one? this was his aluminum one. Image Unavailable, Please Login sjd
He is about 3 months out from availability... my engine is coming out next week so I was hoping to get something asap (or make something up myself if I have the dimension of the plug caps)
Superformance.co.uk does sell the Hill Engineering version. Little pricier, but they ship surprisingly quick. But I do agree with tbakowsky that a 90 degree set of pliers will work
These small pry tools worked well on my last engine out, also handy for hoses to remove the plug wires. Use a standard spark plug socket and pencil magnet on the plug itself. https://www.harborfreight.com/paneltrim-removal-tool-set-6-piece-63639.html?ccdenc=eyJjb2RlIjoiNTY3NzI0ODIiLCJza3UiOiI2MzYzOSIsImlzIjoiMTkuNzkifQ==&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12144811130&campaignid=12144811130&utm_content=117789286478&adsetid=117789286478&product=63639&store=&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIu_uGu7CRgwMVjjStBh0lVgIdEAQYASABEgLDJvD_BwE
By the way, when I mentioned Spark Plug Removal Socket, any 17 mm or 5/8 inch deep socket will work. Don’t forget the pencil magnet… Image Unavailable, Please Login
I didn't realize a tool was needed for this - pretty easy with standard tools when I've done it. Plug boots came off by hand without much struggle at all and my spark plug socket has a rubber grommet in it to grab the plug...What am I missing here?
I'll only add that there appears to be or once was an issue with counterfeit NGK plugs. Make sure you get them from a trusted source.
I had no idea Dave Lelonek was making a plastic version. Not a bad idea actually and with him you already know its going to be top quality. I have the aluminum one. With the gold anodizing it looks like something off the space shuttle. It's a thing of beauty.
