We all love fake variability do we not lol??? I really do not care if Mercedes win the rest. Im happy F1 exists during this crisis in the world. Stop messing with the process. Other teams want to win, then compete and develop. They could have done this over the break between this and next season. Not in the middle that is a bit much lol.
In the end the Merc package is the best ,so they will still pull ahead during the race, but might have to work a bit harder during Qualy.
https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/corner-cutting-barcelona-fia-spain/4855160/ Formula 1 race director Michael Masi has clamped down on corner cutting ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix by issuing new guidance to drivers on Thursday. The FIA previously moved to prevent drivers from gaining an advantage by cutting the corner at Turn 2 of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya by placing a bollard in the run-off area for last year’s race. Any driver failing to negotiate Turn 2 properly after cutting across the run-off at the inside of the corner was required to stay to the left of the bollard before returning to the track in a safe manner. But Masi has moved to further clamp down on this corner cutting by introducing new warnings for those repeatedly missing the corner and gaining an advantage. “Each time any car fails to negotiate Turn 2 by using the track, teams will be informed via the official messaging system,” Masi wrote in his pre-event notes issued to all teams and drivers. “On the second occasion of a driver failing to negotiate Turn 2 by using the track during the race, he will be shown a black and white flag. “Any further cutting will then be reported to the stewards. “In all cases, the driver must only re-join the track when it is safe to do so and without gaining a lasting advantage. “The above requirements will not automatically apply to any driver who is judged to have been forced off the track, each such case will be judged individually.” The additional guidance is in line with the stricter approach the FIA has taken towards policing track limits through the 2020 season so far, with additional guidelines being issued in both Hungary and Great Britain. Some minor changes have also been made to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya since last year’s Spanish Grand Prix. A new asphalt road is now in the run-off area at Turn 1 after being installed for the long lap penalty used in MotoGP. The exit kerb at Turn 8 has been extended, while the gravel trap has also been extended at both Turn 8 and Turn 12. A new TecPro barrier is also in place at Turn 12, plus the metallic kerb at Turn 15 has been extended to meet the pit lane entry.
Plently of people got cured like that. Even the president of Brazil, who is at the risk group, got rid of the virus pretty fast.
Mercedes Formula One boss Toto Wolff cast fresh doubt on his future on Friday while signalling that the champions were now prepared to sign a new deal with commercial rights holders Liberty Media. The Austrian had said at Silverstone last week that Mercedes were not ready to sign a new 'Concorde Agreement' covering the period from 2021 to 2026. The window for signing opens on Tuesday with a final deadline of Aug. 31. "I have changed my opinion in Silverstone," he said in a video news conference at the Spanish Grand Prix. "I don't think that the teams will ever be united. "Everybody tries to achieve some little deals outside, there is a blame culture in the media, so we have decided to move forward with Liberty." Wolff said he had "very constructive" talks with Formula One chief executive Chase Carey last weekend and most of the clarifications Mercedes had wanted to achieve had been discussed. "I feel we are at a good point to sign the Concorde Agreement and move on," he added. Wolff, a shareholder in Mercedes F1, was more guarded on whether he would remain team principal next year. https://www.espn.co.uk/f1/story/_/id/29660851/mercedes-now-ready-sign-new-f1-deal-says-wolff
This gets sillier every day. Why not let drivers cut corners? It adds an element of off-road racing to the whole absurdity. If the car breaks, then the driver knows it wasn't a good idea. If the car doesn't break, then they can do it the next lap too. Somewhere along the way we have to get back to this being racing...a car and a driver trying to go faster than any other car and driver on the track, and willing to take more risks to do so. Natural selection will weed out the unlucky and the stupid. I'd even be okay if they throw the slowest driver into a pit with a lion, so the driver has to kill the lion with his bare hands to get his place back on the grid.
two weeks ago they kept running off in the dirt on turn (??), so prior to last week they expand the cement around that turn. lol. They should be taking pavement away from outside all the turns.
Reminds me of Formula Ford drivers hanging a wheel over the buried tires lining the inside of corners at Bridgehampton. Big price to pay for miscalculation. Big reward if you got it right.
Why let them? The road surface is where the car should be all the time it is on the race track. It is fine to allow the sidewalls of the tires to be on the curbing, but it is not fine to allow the road-touching surface to be on the curbing. The centerline of the road surface determines the length of the track, and it is not a fair race if some cars get to the finish line by covering a shorter distance. It would be fine with me if the apex of turns were guarded with vertical barriers. Going for the absurd today ??
What was wrong with having some sort of surface that makes it difficult to drive through if a driver goes off track....it'll slow the car down and we won't have dumb messages from stewards who will be ''investigating'' and give confusing penalties. We could call it a gravel trap...
Image Unavailable, Please Login This beautifully designed ( no affiliation) spike strip at each entry, tangent and exit point would discourage attempts to gain 0,00001 sec on every turn by going over and beyond the track surface Dangerous? Heck yes!! Dont get near it you Mr. Super Licence Holder Multimillionare Professional prima donna F1 driver...
Let's remove all the kerbs and the tarmac run-off areas, and simply replace them with grass and gravel. I don't see the benefit from putting kerbs at the apex or at the exit of corners; they encourage drivers to go off track limits.
the parking lot runoff should be cut off right at the apex of the corner. Typically an accident happens before the apex, and those that happen after....are controlled 99/100. This sorts out both issues: Accidents are still in that ''safety'' window, and any advantage from cutting or running wide are gone. How come anyone at the FIA hasn't spotted this is utterly beyond me.
