    Dear Mr. Peter (IN Sweden),

I'm sorry, but my intentions were not to offend or upset you, Sir.

I apparently made a mistake assuming you might understand my jest, which was based on the fact that your profile clearly indicates you hailing from SWEDEN and I was hoping my first name would at least suggest a potential clue for where I originate from, which is Finland and to which I was jokingly referring by paraphrasing a title from John Steinbeck's novel "East of Eden" and with which I made another mistake by assuming you might have knowledge of it and would understand my play with words.
Obviously my ability to convey a comprehensible sense of humor still has lot to be desired.

As for the glass and what I was hoping to make clear is that I was just curious since I have quite close and long established contacts with some of the more capable glass manufacturers in Finland and I know they provide most, if not all vintage vehicle glass even for Swedish markets. I know quite well what they can and can not do.

But you having been in business for longer gives obvious hope that you actually might have better sources available for tempered glass than I was ever able establish.
As for who or where your contacts are, you're right, it's non of my business and honestly I don't even care, but if you do succeed, please keep me informed as I might be able to arrange you quite a bit more similar work if you like. I just want to wish you best of luck with this and all your other endeavors.

    Regards,
    Timo

    Matthias,

What's the shape/outline difference between 206GT vs L-Series vs M-Series vs E-Series GT pre body no. 1611 door glass?

A repro from a 3rd source tried over the weekend...closer, but still not acceptable. A mold of an original is being made to provide to a glass maker to see if that might get us closer.

A correction...the shell that the loaner driver side rollup window came out of was a 246 L-series, not a 206 as I stated before.

Also, a 4th repro window fits well enough that it will replace the loaner, and now needs the Sicursiv stencil applied. Does anyone know a quick, reliable source for that stencil?

Days before I am supposed to leave to show my car at ConcoursUSA, my driver's side window spontaneously imploded. My mechanic phoned the usual North American sources without luck.

He then phoned the factory. They had one - we ordered it and it arrived yesterday. It's a perfect fit, even using the proper Dino channel moulding.

Cost of the window was 416 GBP, about $700 USD.

Here's the manufacturer's label on the window. Yes, it's that Forghieri.

    Case closed!

Is all that printing etched into the glass or stamped? It's texture looks etched which would make it impossible (I suspect) to remove and replace with the proper Sicursiv or Securit markings.

    Glad your situation worked out!

It's etched. The different manufacturer mark doesn't bother me: having it come directly from Ferrari is comforting in that regard.

The important thing is that it is a perfect fit.

Just a quick note on spontaneously exploding TEMPERED glass - I had two passenger windows in my 246gts explode.

The first exploded when I reached across from the driver's side and gently pulled the door closed while sitting parked in my garage. The window was down inside the channel. About 3 seconds after I closed the door, I heard a rumbling crack, and then glass fragments poured out of the window channel onto the seat and carpet and outside the door dropping to the floor. It looked like Niagara Falls.

About a year later my wife opened the garage door and then called me from the garage and asked if I had hit the window or closed the door in the Dino. When I told her no, she told me to come down to the garage immediately.

When I walked into the garage, the passenger window had again blown up. This time the window had been in the up position. Glass fragments were inside the car AND all over the top of the car, including the targa top, the whole front, the engine and rear trunk deck, and a halo of glass fragments surrounded the car.

An architect neighbor walked over from across the street and told us that shaped tempered glass was well known to shatter spontaneously. He explained that the glass is constantly trying to "resolve" itself, and that even in unshaped tempered glass, slightest imperfection can cause it to explode.

Then, a few weeks later I saw an article about spontaneously exploding tempered shower stall doors blowing up when no one had been using the shower. I also found videos on youtube of spontaneously exploding tempered glass tables that had been captured on security cameras blowing up.

I also found a lawsuit brought against Ford for similar problems with tempered glass in Ford Tempos.

I understand that the windows in 246gt Dinos are much less likely to spontaneously blow up because of the frame and side channel support, although I have not been able to confirm.

I think I exhausted the correct glass supply for passenger side windows for 246 gts's for several years . . . .

Those are pretty big pieces. Mine were between the size of a dime and a nickel.
