I ordered them after I got the tip from Radiogeek1 at www.longstonetyres.co.uk/

Free shipping and no tax made it cheaper than ordering them at cokertire.

I'm facing the same problem with my 1982 308GTB; the Michelin TRX tires are the only ones that fit on the 390mm rim.

I'm planning to purchase 16" rims from Superformance.uk. Greater initial cash outlay, but better handling, better tires, and far more choices.

The 16" wheels will bolt right onto any 308. I imagine that they'd fit your 412, too. (If, however, you're a stickler for originality, I understand.)

New 16" wheels is the right way to go. You can choose from a variety of better performing & safer tires. The initial outlay for 16" rims & tires is about the same for 4 new TRX Michelin's which have 30 year old engineering and tread patterns. They aren't safe. Keep the old ones in the attic for originality when & if you sell your 400.

Here is the best use for TRX tires.

Here is a close up of the 16" repro wheels that I bought for my 308. I purchased the steel valve stems and made sure that the installer placed the balancing weights on the inside of the rims for aesthetics.
Fortunately, my 400GT is pre TRX era & they were fitted with 15" wheels.

but, will the SF 16's work on a 400 series car ?

i have an extra set of the SF rims on the shelf and i'd like to do some tests in the spring...
and although it's great to have 15's, as far as modern tire options go...
they really can't touch the 415's for looks...the 15's look like Mondial rims by comparison.
i have 2 sets of each and i can't help but cringe when i look at the 15's on my cars...
behind the wheel however, that goes away very quickly...because old TRX's really do suck.

i'd love to try new TRX's to see how they feel, but i won't pay $2500 just to find out...

This is the best price I've found for them. They charge ~$250 to ship to the United States, but even then, the price is the best I've found.

If anyone knows a less expensive source, or can tell me definitely whether there would be any import fees/tariffs, I'd appreciate the information, too.

I bought the reproduction 16" wheels for my Mondial from Superformance and could not have been happier. They were the cheapest when I looked.

    695 British Pounds + 125 for shipping = 820 British Pounds = 1,330.20 American dollars

    www.granturismo.ca
Not shown on website; may be available if you call

    www.ferraripartsexchange.com
These appear to be original (not reproductions, as superformance sells)
A set of 16" wheels costs $1950 plus shipping

    www.trutlands.com
7.5x14 wheels cost $806 each; 16" wheels currently unavailable

    www.awautoparts.us
No wheels shown on website; might be available if you call.

    www.allferrariparts.com
Front $901 for two; Rear $951.50/two

Superformance still appears to be the lowest priced source for 16" wheels, unless you do not want reproductions.

(I understand that the reproductions are slightly heavier and lack the small raised line on the inner rim. Sticklers for originality and concours competitors may not want these. For me, the additional weight is negligible, and the appearance is almost identical to OEM.)

Keep the originals for the next guy and for concours, the reproductions allow you to get a tire from this century.

That was my thinking, too. . . and the safer, better 21st-Century tires don't cost $475/each! :)

    Those 16's won't fit a 412.

However if you do a search of Aleventhal's posts you'll see where he put 16"s with spacers on his 400i.

oh they fit...but will they work is the question ?
because a tire with a correct looking side wall (60-70) might rub once it's on a 16" rim...
and a lower profile tire (45-55) that doesn't rub might look dumb or ride too hard...or both.

i will definitely be finding out in the spring though...

Hi Carguy...Yes I did...do you know the car? If so, I'd appreciate any information you might wish to pass along....I've been in this car thing for more years than I want to admit, but Ferraris are a relatively new game for me...Happy New Year, Marc

Much quieter than the originals and they are predictable as you start pushing them.

    Brett,

If the width and rolling radius of the tires are the same, the tires will fit and not screw up the speedo, no matter what size rims you use (assuming the rim offset is correct). I doubt you will see much difference between a 16" and a metric (TRX) rim but if you go with a 17" or 18", it will definately increase the 'bling' factor.

    Regards,

    Art S.
