Yes, it's true. I was at one of the local Copart yards a week ago looking at a couple of projects when one of the yard workers said, "Yeah, that's a fast car but I got something in the garage that will blow it away!" What's that I asked. "A Ferrari F50!" My response... "No Fn way!" He said, "Meet me over at the garage and I'll show you." I did and there it was :) Yeah, there's a story that goes along with the car... LOL http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9QA40V80.htm

    Here it is... VIN: 103494

Several threads about this car in the supercar sections. Don't think I remember seeing pictures of the damage though.

That should buff out. If a polisher doesn't do the trick you might get lucky with one of the fine kits available in the marketplace. That's pretty wild that it is ending up on Copart.
F50 is my favorite modern Ferrari, sad to see it like that.

Wonder how long before Mr. H of Lufkin, TX picks it up, performs a repair and then advertises it on eBay with a clean title...

The truly sad part about this story is that prior to being discovered as the Algar car and the criminal who stole it being arrested, the car had finally ended up in the hands of someone who we all know would cherished it just as it should be. After all the legal dust over the theft had settled there's even a good chance it could have ended up back in his garage.

Then FBI agent Fred Kingston had to get behind the wheel and ruin it.

    Sad sight to see....sigh !

There was a possibility the car could have ended up back with me after the legal wranglings were settled...was actively negotiating the same when the sinking news of the crash came through. It would not have mattered to me whether the car had a salvage title etc...it was still an F50 and had a great story. Poor car was snakebitten from the start it seems.

IMO, the car is VERY repairable. So if a salvage/rebuilt title does not matter to you, it may be worth a look. The salvage title won't matter to many of the prospective bidders from other countries. Other than taking a hit on resale value, a salvage title here in Kentucky entitles you to a 25% discount on annual property taxes. But hey, that may not be a big deal if they keep the ACV at $22,500 lol.

Right now, they are waiting on a new VIN plate to arrive before they can sell it. If you are in Kentucky, please buy it and keep it here ;) Or at least organize a timeshare let 10 of us go in together and buy it????

Tub damage will be VERY expensive to fix. Possibly requiring a brand new tub.

Such a shame. First and only F50 I've ever seen.

Thanks for sharing it when you had it Jas...

Almost wish the car would disappear completely, as it keeps popping up without any progress being made. Someone needs to scrap it or fix it entirely.

Edit: Guess this guy's fixing it? Would be nice...especially if it's done properly.

I would agree - if Algar took a look at it and declared a total loss, especially if RufMD was interested in buying it - it must be an expensive repair.

Something like jacking up the radiator cap and rolling a new car under it. :D

It would be the "mother of all" repairs.

I dont suppose its possible theres another car out there that was wrecked destroying everything else but leaving an intact tub and the 2 could become one?

This might be (probably is) heresy, but that engine would look great in the back of a Norwood P4... beats letting it rot.

Seriously, it's not that bad. I'm not an expert on the Ferrari F50 by any means, but I have rebuilt several cars. Porsches, Audi's, Corvettes, a Testarossa and if all goes well, hopefully a Gallardo very soon. And when I mentioned Corvettes, I am not talking about a simple fender or quarter panel repair, I am referring to repairing entire cowl sections, floor and rear tubs. Complete structural integrity can be obtained by repairing, NOT replacing the tub. Cheaper cars, with MORE damage are repaired satisfactory every day.

I think you guys may be going a bit overboard. While it may take serious $$$ to make it absolutely concours perfect, it would NOT be a difficult repair to make it a sound and beautiful car again. Then again, I'm glad so many people shy away from wrecked exotics :D It allows me to enjoy the hobby without being a millionaire.

Hey, maybe a TV opportunity. See what West Coast Customs can do with it in 7 days...

Reality is, it's definetly worth repairing. Find someone who will or loan me $300K so I can. lol.
