This article from AutoBlog.com talks about Ferdinand Piëch mentioning something about a 1200hp Veyron at the Vienna University of Technology...

The part about this that I don't understand is that a 200hp gain isn't much in terms of moving a car any faster at top-end due to aerodynamics. If my enthusiast knowledge serves me well, IIRC a 400hp increase would only yield something to the effect of +/- 20mph?

Why would 1200hp mean much more than 1000? Is this low end, then? Sub 2.5 0-62?

It just doesn't seem like that increase would give the driver any noticeable difference in driving experience.

As in so many special editions? To be expected, I think.

It really wouldn't affect top speed at all, as the car is limited to its current restrictions because of its tires.

As I understand it this will be to retake "Fastest VMAX" back from SSC and try to move the remaining Veyron parts.

In true VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) spirit, they're gonna spit out special editions till the car's totally outplayed. Look at the Lamborghinies, can you keep track of all the special editions and facelifts and lightweight models?

Ferrari and Porsche are not blameless in this racket. Seems to be a lot of this going around. I've always chuckled at the "Remove creature comforts, add 10bhp and sell for $20,000 more" habits. And people are eating it up.

so just a few more PSI yes? ;)

IIRC Bugatti still haven't sold all of the 300 veyrons, last month the counter was at 245 I think? And they still have 150 Grand Sports to sell as well (not sure how many have been made as of yet).

Frankly, I don't think you'll feel the 10mph higher topspeed.

I wish they'd make a lighter version. It's outrageously heavy...

Don't fret,... I'm sure it's coming. The car will prob be 268 lbs lighter... and your wallet will be £100,000 lighter!

Actually the "standard" engine is in reality in the 1100-1200 PS range depending on car. VW have said that "1001 horsepower" just sounded better...

well... 200hp is a 20 percent increase. so if they made a z06 with a 20 percent increase it would have about 610hp... and it would be a big deal... ohh wait... its called the zr1(although the zr1 has slightly more than that... you get the point)

    or how about a 911 carrera s and a turbo? or a 599 and a GTO...

Its part of the game and yes i will be you will feel that extra 200 horsepower... nonetheless i still can't stand this damn car...

as far as them making it any lighter... it can't get a whole lot lighter, its one of the worst designs for a car and to lighten it up to where it should be would require a carbon tub or a complete redesign

Yes its all marketing in the sense of them constantly whoring out special editions... In my circle of business we all joke how Phantoms are 1 of 4 or 1 of 7 equipped like this... we all know its BS... but everytime one gets described to us... it always accompanies.

they can do what they want, it's the fastest usable car in the world

think it's expensive? don't buy one

    try and find an alternative...

the Veyron is a wonderful car and people should be upset to see production end, what other cars are on the horizon with those kind of lunatic figures?
