Bill no longer answers the phone, or returns messages, or can be reached. The last 20 transactions with GT were all done by Mostafa. Did ownership change? Did Bill decide to hang it up and hand it over?

I went by there the other day and Bill was still there.
Answering the phone has become less frequent over the years.... now he doesn't do it. Maybe he's getting ready to retire.

I exchanged emails with Mostafa in winter of 22. So he has been there at least that long.

    Hi Mitchell and others,

I'm Ross Young, Bill's son. I work with my dad and Mostafa at GT Car Parts and have been part of the team full time for about 6 years now. Many of you probably haven't talked to me directly because I'm not usually the one picking up the phones. I work on the manufacturing side of things, run our fuse board rebuild department and do a lot of behind the scenes work to keep our day-to-day operations running smoothly.

I don't usually post on FerrariChat in an "official" or commercial capacity as we are not site sponsors. However hopefully it's not against site rules to directly address your questions.

No, Bill has not sold the business nor has he handed over management to anyone else. He is still here 6 days a week running sales and daily operations as he has for 45+ years. No plans for retirement as of yet, he's still enjoying running his business and isn't interested in much else (I have trouble getting him to take any vacation or sick days). While he is still going strong, for both business reasons and to give him a little more flexibility in his daily routine he has lately delegate more customer service duties (i.e. answering phones and emails) to Mostafa.

If you've ever worked at a business based primarily around phone sales and phone customer service (like GT Car Parts), you will know that the constant need to answer phones can interrupt all plans and routines. Since as I mentioned before Bill has singlehandedly managed all sales and operations for the last 45 years, his knowledge and skills are invaluable to us. Therefore he has a lot of demands on his time both from day-to-day operations, ongoing process modernization efforts and other plans for the future. So unfortunately he cannot always be available for every call, although for those customers that prefer to deal with him directly he will get back to you in time if he knows you want to speak to him specifically.

Mostafa is extremely knowledgeable and capable. He has worked with us for over 6 years under Bill's direct oversight. I have complete faith in him but if you've had any issue with his customer service, you can let me know via PM here or email and I can work to get it resolved.

Years ago I worked for a guy who owned a classic Ford parts business. This guy would never take a break..took a week or 2 in a year to vacation, but that's it.

I was maybe 16 when I worked there. I could never understand why he didn't take advantage of the time he had and money he made.

He died behind his desk at work..he had boat loads of money, and a next level frugal life style. He allowed himself a hot tub. That man taught me a lesson. Spend it..enjoy it.

Some people are extremely passionate about their work and haven't bought in to consumerism. The money isn't why they do what they do. To each, his own.

    Solid perspective, shared.

I have known multiple guys whos work was their life. Passionate guys. As soon as they retired and slowed down, they passed. All within two years.

Do what you want to do with your life, whatever that looks like.

Plenty depends on who you share your life with. His wife was a do nothing..as a result his kids were do nothings..so they really didn't know any better. I fear I'm on the same path. I realize it..and I'm working to change it..

When I had my shop in the mid 80's to early 90's, my number one source for Maserati parts was MIE in Seattle and for Ferrari and Lambo -- GT Car Parts in Phoenix. This was "pre-internet" and those phone calls to both groups was informative and friendly. It was a pleasure to talk with Bill, who was a wealth of information that was hard to get in those days.

Glad to see he still enjoys his work.

I just wish they were better at returning phones calls. I don't buy as much from them for that reason alone. I will try again, because I do like their pricing, now that my home shop is almost done.

Your business model is not unusual & most have learned to adjust to your modus operandi. I treasure my interfaces with my superior Ferrari mechanic & his two, very competent sons. Thanks for your answer.
