Hi - the "warning" label on the sun visor is peeling off and I want to remove it, but there is a nasty sticky residue left behind.

Does anyone know how to remove it?

IPA (isopropyl alcohol) or meths should do it. Follow up with a leather moisturiser though.

I recently peeled mine off. About 15 applications with a clean paper towel each time, soaked in mineral spirits. It takes a while but eventually it all comes off

I took mine off when the car was new. As I recall, I peeled it off and then cleaned the residue with leather cleaner and a cotton towel. It may be tougher with older, well dried glue.

I used Goof Off. Put some on a cloth and gently wipe. Don't let the stuff sit too long. All of the adhesive will come right off.

My labels peeled off easily enough and the small amount of remaining dried glue simply rubbed off with my fingers. No solvent of any sort required.

I've never used 'goof off' but have have used 'goo gone' plenty of times with much success.

I keep a can of 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover around the house at all times for removing any sticky residue from pretty much anything. Works fantastic.

I used my finger, rubbed on it until everything came off, it reminded me of high school. It was sort of a little marathon to get both done, but it didn't even need leather conditioning or anything after I was done.

Goof Off or Goo Gone both work equally well. If you have already peeled off the sticker and only need to remove the glue, another trick that works is to use...peanut butter. Just rub it into the glue and both will come off. Not recommended for felt or cloth visors, but it works great on vinyl and (dark) leather and may not be as harsh as the chemical-based solvents. In fact, peanut butter works well to remove glue from a lot of different things.

Olive oil vs peanut butter. Mediterranean solution vs. the American peanut!

Only extra virgin olive oil imported from Italy will work. :-D

I resurrected this thread for a valid reason. I had my car towed to the shop to have the starter replaced, and the tow truck driver decided to look for money in my sun visor pocket. Not only did he transfer grease onto the visor and the nearby roof area, but he also stretched the pocket so wide that he damaged the material. I purchased a replacement visor from a Ferrari auto wrecker, and while the item is in mint condition, you can tell that it's very dirty and has this same adhesive problem on the leather side. Thanks to this thread, I should have the glue removal covered. However, what is the material on the other side and how do I clean that?

Material on the other side is Alcantara. Can clean with a decent all purpose cleaner. It's mostly polyester and polyurethane so it's pretty resistant to chemicals for short periods. If you have a stubborn stain, alcohol can work. Avoid mineral spirits though as it can leave the fibers greasy.

I ended up applying the olive oil a couple of times, followed by some Lexol leather cleaner several times. All the adhesive is off but there is a faint rectangle of oh so slightly leather that is lighter than the rest of the visor. I'm so wiped out from a busy week, I'll apply more cleaner later. I rubbed some water from a damp cloth onto the Alcantara but that did not do much. I couldn't figure out what to clean it with, then it dawned on me: Carpet cleaner. I sprayed the entire side with that white foam and rubbed it into the material using a damp towel. I let it dry, then vacuumed it (just like you're supposed to do with the carpet) and it looks fantastic.
Another thing I noticed was that they changed the design of the pocket on the Alcantara side. The pocket on my original piece (my 2000) has a very deep, full-on pocket with only one side open. The piece from the newer year has a pocket but both sides are open. I can see why they did that. If you accidently shove something small into the old-style pocket deep enough, you're likely to never get it out without damaging the material. With the new design, you can slide something in there (to the center), then just safely push it out the other side to remove it.
