As I tried too explain previously the R33 can be legally imported as a 'whole/entire car' yet must be configured/modified to meet US emissions and safety standards for DD use as it does not meet them from their origin/home. The R32 is not yet eligible for importation as a whole vehicle and the R32's that are running around the states are illegal. The R32 US eligibility is yet to be determined but I have no doubt it will still need modifications to meet DD status once it is eligible. All this information is easily found on...Home | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) . A link is also provided for certified importation shops. I am not trying to be 'ass hat' either just stating the facts. Just to cover my rear I once again called the NHTSA and was given the same information. If anyone else would like to inquire about importing specific makes and models just call 1-202-366-5291 which is the importation department of the NHSTA.
Interesting, still a lot of money for them in OZ. In the UK R32 GTR's are dirt cheap. I knew they'd be expensive in the States...but Australia surprises me.
decent ones starting at 8K pounds. Bargains are still to be found, friend of mine picked up one for 5.5K last year. 400bhp, mechanically sound and needed some basic touch up on the exterior. It's his daily and hasn't gone wrong. Decent modified examples (not half assed) are aroung 12-15K GBP. Some examples: Low miles Used 2004 Nissan Skyline R32 for sale in Buckinghamshire | Pistonheads Very clean, 500bhp (so not exactly slow) Used 1994 Nissan Skyline R32 for sale in Essex | Pistonheads More aggressive styling: Used 1993 Nissan Skyline R32 for sale in Essex | Pistonheads
The first ad Bas most likely just means the current owner has had the car since 2004 as the R32 was only produced for six years from '89-'94. Also I will take this opportunity to clarify that R32's and R34's can be legally imported under the 'Show or Display' clause but there are a lot of hoops and hurdles. 37878 Federal Register / Vol. 64, No. 134 / Wednesday, July 14, 1999 / Rules and Regulations Here is the list of valid importers and I would start by contacting one of them first as they can answer any questions. About 2yrs ago I did spot an R33 on the road not far from my house, it was AWESOME!!
Thanks for the list. I wasn't even aware that there was a year in the ad to be honest , it was just an indication of how much R32's go for in the UK. Years ago, a friend of mine and myself where driving in his newly imported R33 GTS-t, with some decent suspension, 400bhp, LSD and couple of other things added. We met with some friends at the beach and when we left, he threw me the keys to have a go...I barely had my license and mostly drove a car with half the power and ruined suspension (S13 200sx, 240 in the states). It was nothing short of awesome. I've since had experience with Skyline GTR's as well but the GTS-t's shouldn't be underestimated, they're a ton of fun for no money (outside the States, of course). He paid around £4000 for it including shipping and registration...Amazing value! Still has it to this day, just with more power .
You are correct about the GTS-t's as they are great yet seem to be overlooked. I have no doubts that sherpa23 will find what he is looking for.
This is the truth and it goes for buying as well. You can see lots of hackjob modifications and really abused ones.
Just a note that not ALL R32 and R34 GT-Rs can be imported under Show and Display. Only select R32s and V-Spec R34s are eligible, all others have been declared ineligible, based on my understanding. It's an arbitrary decision process, to be sure - don't know how a MB 190E 2.5-16 got on the "Approved" list.
The GTS-T and GTR provide two different options for you. The GTS-T is a great little car that offers bang for buck PLUS reliability. I put probably about 30,000 miles doing nothing but brake pads, one upper control arm, a speedo cable, and oil changes. If you want a cool little cruiser that is fun to drive and reliable the GTS-T is the way I would go. It is less expensive all around with no GTR tax added. It provides, from factor, over 200hp with the Inline 6 2.0L single turbo. RWD is fun and it is a a tad lighter vs the GTR. The GTR gets an AWD system and the 2.6L twin turbo. It's the car you want if you want a sports car. It is faster compared to the GTS-T and easier to make power. The chassis is wider slightly and you get a better look all around due to this. I'm looking to get back into a GTR in the coming future as I love the car.
This is true but for the purpose of importing and driving on the street the USA residents are waiting on the 1989/1990 Nissan Skyline GTR's. For Show And Display it is the following,
So this just came up for sale near me.... 1989 Nissan Skyline R32 Federally Legal, Available Now $13,995 Updated 13 hours ago VEHICLE IS LOCATED IN RICHMOND, VA AND IS FEDERALLY LEGAL!! Finally after years of waiting, the first Nissan Skyline R32's are becoming legal to import. This example was built in May of '89 making it legal to import this month. With just 58k miles, it is in excellent condition inside and out. The exterior of the car is in exceptional condition for the age, with no major damage to speak of, and the paint shines very nice! All original GTS-T trim, it features the optional retractable front lip and low rise rear wing along with power folding mirrors. The interior has been looked after very well, there is no bubbling on the dash typical of R32's and overall is in excellent condition. The steering wheel shows some wear, but that is easily fixed with a Nardi, or oem replacement. Mechanically the car runs and drives like a 5 year old car. This is one of the most solid driving 25 year old car we have imported. The engine and transmission have been swapped to a RB25DET. The car pulls fantastic and breaks traction in 1st gear even with the stock exhaust, boost, and airbox! This car will not disappoint and would likely make a trip across the country with no issues. Includes U.S. Customs Release, clean Virginia Title and State inspection, no bs here! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.586524671446165.1073741848.473888866043080&type=3 1989 R32 Nissan Skyline Turbo GTS-T RB25 5-Spd - Japanese Classics
Happy to see them making it to U.S! Am I the only one who finds this car awesome looking, 1989 A31 Nissan Cefiro Turbo 5-Speed RB20DET - Japanese Classics ?
If you don't want to rush btw I would suggest waiting. The R32 GTS-T cost in Ontario started originally between 10-13000 and dropped to prices in the 6-8 now. GTR models can be attained for 10 - 15k. It's the cost of having one of the first ones and not many other people knowing about it. Competition among importers will lower prices and that is that.
Spot on. That's the big debate I"m having now. I found some great cars but how much am I overpaying by in order to have one of the first ones? I have mixed feelings about it. They are great cars but I could save $10k by waiting two years.
I'm in the same position. The R32 I really want is either a Nismo or a V-Spec. But then I don't really want to wait two years to buy one. Then again I don't want to over pay to be one of the first with an '89. Decisions, decisions......
That's a really good looking car. Hard to believe it's 25 years old. Having an RB25 in there is nice too. That's about a 40hp boost over the RB20 that it would have came with.
I have a deposit on a Nismo car right now. I don't have to wait. I can bring it in right now. It's a lot to think about.
