430 Smoke test on EVAP leak, what is the smoke injection point?

    ... perhaps it's not beyond the purge valves (#18 in the upper diagram). The system would have to be sealed to detect a leak. Of course, the valves themselves could be leaking.

    Are items 16 and 14 check (one-way) valves in the lower diagram? Either way, the diagnostic pump can only check what it can access. Perhaps you should introduce the smoke at #12 in the upper diagram, the outlet of the diagnostic pump (item 8 in the upper inset). If items 16 and 14 are check valves and not working properly, you may have to open the fuel filler cap to see if smoke comes out of the tanks. Or leave the cap on and see if smoke comes past the fuel cap seal? Does your smoke tester have a pressure gauge on it?

    How accessible is the pump? You've already changed it, haven't you?

    If your smoke tester can detect leaks (without you having to see smoke), you could try clamping off various sections of hose to see if anything changes.
