What's the story behind the Thyssen-Krupp elevator? The ones in my building are slightly dysfunctional.
There is a building somewhere around the river, lake side of Michigan Ave. I think it was called the AMOCO Building. I remember visiting our office there on a very windy day, and seeing doors pop open as the building swayed in the wind.
Any pictures of the finished Trump? Did the spire ever get going? I saw some pictures of the foundation but heard they stopped construction.
That would be the Standard Oil Building (aka "Big Stan"), designed in the early 1970's by the late Edward Durell Stone. It made news some time back when the entire exterior stone cladding began to fail and had to be replaced. It was also known for its elevators that bumped nervously about in their tracks as they headed up the shafts.
They're having a (2nd) contest about what to do with the hole where the spire was going to be built. http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/theskyline/2010/02/round-two-filling-the-chicago-spire-hole-.html
To bad its not getting built yet, but you never know. This one was well liked by many people, so it may come back again someday. Something big will get built there for sure. They already put in the secant walls and cassions, so alot has already been dumped into the project and property. Waterview will also be finished in some form at some point. They have already made cladding for it up to something like the 25th floor(stored in a warehouse near O'hare). When the dust settles someone will take over Waterview and I think finish it as originally designed. It has a better chance than the Chicago Spire at this point since its 1/4th done. That explains that noise I heard that scared the poop out of me everytime I visited our office in that buiding.

That is a cool building when you are standing next to it. I wish the waves stood out more from farther away, but it's still very nice. I saw a building in Miami that was proposed that looked kind of like this. Not to much chance of that getting built. This building is right across from the Chicago Spire and Waldorf sites that will never be built?(never say never) TT
A couple of shots looking east and north at downtown Chicago. Its hard to get all the buildings in 1 picture looking east. 4 of the 5 tallest building in North America are in the 1st and 4th photos. Amazing photos. I saw the one with lightning hitting Trump, Big John and "Sears" all at one time. Chicago is not used to these Texas/Florida style heavy rain storms. Everybody was in a panic. Tom Tanner/Ferrari Expo 2011-Chicago April 2011

One more. Can you pick out the 3 1100 foot+ supertalls in this picture? Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2011-Chicago April 2011 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I remember going to Chicago a few times in the late 60's for art trips. The last one we took the Sears Tower was under construction.
Its on Fox http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/good_day/chicago-spire-dream-eyesore-reality-shelbourne-20100810 One can only hope that this thing gets off the ground someday!
Museum Park west all finished. BCBS also done. Roosevelt University should be rising soon just south of the red CNA building. Projects are starting again with 4 just under 500 foot building's starting construction earlier this year. I hope the Waterview will start again soon. Also a kind of rare shot south of the loop looking west, with an endless amount of boats.
