Wolf Creek in So CO should open first or second week of Nov. A-Basin is mostly about drinking for the next few weeks. :)

So far we have little or no snow.

And reservations from Thanksgiving to Jan 11th are down 20% from last year.

This is great for powder hogs and lousy for inn keepers.

Being of the former ilk, it looks like a great year. they are forecasting another winter of super snow.

    Life is good.

A base is forming on the mountains, as Phil alluded to with 12" here, 14" there. If the storms keep coming Thanksgiving could be decent, if limited.

    Stay tuned...

I haven't been to Loveland or A-Basin this season but a friend who goes to Loveland often has been up the last couple of weeks said it's good. This is NOT epic skiing by any means but if you go during a powder day, well, a powder day is a powder day.

Also note, where places like Breckenridge and Vail are a vanilla latte served with an organic muffin, Loveland and A-Basin are black coffee served in a styrofoam cup. But like I said, if you get a powder day, it don't really matter.

Breckenridge and I think Keystone are now open. The mountains will be getting some snow tomorrow. You actually might be able to get a powder day if you come out now. Or not. It's kind of 50/50 right now.

They are, and we are expecting some more of the white stuff beginning tonight. The old saying, "white ribbon of death" still applies to all skiing at this point, though. Haven't been out yet, but I hope to soon (back troubles). They're blowing snow here in Vail, but the variable weather has been slowing efforts down. We've had some decent storms, but it's not ready, yet. Vail ought to have a couple of runs open in ~2 weeks. Opening day is 11/21.

Lake Louise, Sunshine, Revelstoke and Whistler are all open but if you happen to have rock skis I suggest bringing them out. Is anyone using the new reverse rocker snowboard or skis? I highly recommend getting a pair if you're a higher calibre rider looking to have more fun in the powder and park.

Ran into this thread and it gave me a great laugh:

It's Sunday...5" and still snowing. 24" total at Snowmass...18" inches on Ajax (Aspen Mountain).

The fireworks lat night were spectacular against the new pow pow which we watched from the comfort of the hall window. Warm and toasty.

Life is good by the fire. ;)

Giant slalom and slalom today at the World Cup (on local TV as well).

    All,

Have been working on the Birds of Prey course this week at Beaver Creek. Yesterday, we had drifts of over 3' on the course. While it's great for BC, it's a real PITA for us course workers and not so great for the course itself. I've probably shoveled 2 tons of snow in the past 4 days. Anyway, I hope some of you will visit the Beav for the races. The course is scary, if you haven't ever seen one. Sheet ice, shaved down to sheer slickness. And, steep.

Tuesday is the first day of the DH training runs. And if you think the training runs are at half speed, guess again. Thursday is the first day of the races. All the big names will be here, and the BoP course is the only US run event for the Men. If you're in the neighborhood and have never seen one of these races, you should stop by. I'll be the guy in the black jacket!

Its the only reason us Midwest racers had any chance at all....sheet ice is all we ever knew. I have decided that this is the year to get back on the hills after a couple decades off.

CW, that has to be a hoot working the race, post some photo's

Regrettably, Dave, I didn't get any pictures of the racers. But, it wasn't for lack of trying. The shutter speed just wasn't fast enough on my little Nikon. Lots of blurry and empty shots.

Anyway, if you're up to Vail, let me know. Still haven't gotten the Stradale down for service to you. My bad.

On the chart you posted Arapahoe Basin had the most new snow. A-basin always gets the most snow in the local Denver area resorts. Wolf Creek gets more but its far away.
