14.7 liter valve-in-head V-12, designed in 1929 for marine use. Dual carbs, twin ignition, aircraft-style 'fork & blade' crank & rods. Manufactured unchanged from 1931 to 1959. 350 hp with late-style high compression heads & camshafts; torque: 'enough'.

Oh; and it weighs 1780 lbs. with the transmission! ;-)

Aluminum crankcase, castiron crankshaft, rods, cylinders & heads.

The original owner of this motor had twin Paxton-McCulloch superchargers installed in 1956, running 8 lbs. of boost, and revving up to 3000 RPM's (on poured bearings!!). Yes, it lasted one whole summer....

(turns out these cost more than your average Ferrari V-12 to rebuild too...)

I love traditional engines reversed for marine drive.

It's actually a pretty cool little outboard. (I just replaced the old one). It's only a 9.9 but they finally fuel injected one that size. No more carb maintenance. This one is hooked up to batteries and has electric start and power tilt, but they make them so no battery required. First pull charges system and second starts it so no battery needed even for fuel injection.

I do have some nice big thick sails. :)
