Shouldn't the Aventador weight less than the Aventador?

The Murcielago has huge weight saving potential.

Remove the stock muffler and save 50 - 100 pounds, it is heavy I have moved it around storage a few times. If you take out the primary cats even more savings.

RWD conversion saves over 100 pounds as well. 200 pounds weight reduction on the Murci is easy.

I have actually weighed all of the parts that make up the 4wd system of the Murci and the weight is 106.15 lbs. When you factor in re-installing a transmission mount and stub axle deletes the real weight savings is 90-95 lbs. As for the exhaust that is a heavy one. The muffler with both secondary cats weighs 102 lbs.

Getting back to the OP question about the Aventador VS Murcielago weight it is worthwhile to note that the Aventador is a larger car with a lot more electronics and toys. The wiring and control units add up to a lot more weight. I'm not at all surprised to read that the weight difference between the Aventador and Murci are almost nothing.

 

Safety, comfort features and electronics cause a huge weight penalty.
Overall, the Aventador is a larger car. The base Aventador rear wheels/tires are MASSIVE compared to the large Murci rears.
