458/488 Group: I am an owner of a Lamborghini Huracan RWD Spyder. I just got the car new a few months ago and I do love it. Lately I have been feeling I may have made a mistake and should have pulled the trigger on the 18 488 GTB. I now have a chance to order a new GTB and get it in May. I need your help. I wish I could just keep my Lambo and get the GTB, but unfortunately I can’t. Can you please tell me the best and worst things about the 488 GTB? Thanks much! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I like the more classic look of Ferrari vs. the "kit car-ish, expensive boy-racerish" look of the Lamborghini. Almost like the demeanor of an expensive Corvette if you will. The Performante is an exceptional beast. I do feel it will age a bit due to its trendy design. Especially the video game-like dashboard...
Took delivery of a new 488 spider earlier in the year. Just moved back down to a 458 spider though and have an order in for Performante spider. 488 hasn’t been my cup of tea, fwiw. I like the look and sound of the Huracan over the 488.
I would suggest you rent one and drive it extensively for one full day and also consider Huracan Performante. My business had the LP-580-2 Huracan and he hated it. I happen to think it is awesome car. Just the one he had is most bare bone with little to no options. He has since gotten 458 Spider, Aventador SV, and 720S. Another one of my business partner just picked up LP610-4 and he loves it. I would love to get one as well, as it is absolutely spectacular car. I am just a bit shallow and had 2 little bulls before, I told myself if I ever get another bull it has to be the big bull. The main different between the 488 and LP580-2 is the look and size. Huracan looks very short and it is. 488 has that substantial look. In comparison my 570s looks even smaller than Huracan despite almost same length as 488. 488 has a lot more torque and mid range punch than Huracan. I daily drive the 488 at least 5 times a week and only reason I even drive the 570S is it would be a waste just to let it sit. The best thing about 488 for me is the look, sound, and power. It has that Aventatoresque look yet not too extreme at the same time (maybe just me lol). Put it in CT when tire is warm, it is dramatic. It also has one of best best looking key fob among exotic cars. Things I hate about 488 are: 1. no true keyless entry. There is no reason why driver still need to press button to unlock or lock. 2. doesn't have the kind of solid traction like the McLaren, somehow 570S and 720S has far superior traction. I even swapped out MPSS for Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Yet still seems like the PZero Corsa is superior. Not sure if it is the tires or more superior weight transfer of Mclaren under hard acceleration. 3. Key hole that look like bullet hole on the door, it could had been hidden behind the door handle. 4. Instead of rpm activated exhaust valve, it should had a set up similar to Granturismo MC, either loud or quiet all the time. For example, in sport mode valve open at 3k rpm. Race, CT, ESC off with valve open at all rpm. 5. No soft close door. 6. Front trunk should had use similar system as McLaren without the need of sticking hand under to unlatch. Other than above it is darn perfect in every way. I almost lost desire to buy other sports cars after 488 besides Aventador S, Aventador SV, GTC4 Lusso, Performante.
Yes get the 488 Spider over Lambo. Allocations are easy to get these days and heck I'd check used as well.
Motorwerks: I think that is one of my issues. Almost like the “elegance” look of the 488 better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Dustman - This is one of my fears about the 488. The noise from the Huracan is just awesome. The 488 sounds quiet, but the looks are beautiful. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This was so incredibly helpful, thank you. Absolutely love the transparency on this. The Huracan doesn’t have true keyless entry either. It is very annoying. What I do like about the Ferrari is the 7 year free maintenance, that seems like a really good deal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Are they discounting as well? I got a great deal on my Lambo when I ordered it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not that I made a mistake, but Ferrari to me just has a brand about it that really resonates with me. Audi did a great job with the Huracan but the R8 has a lot of similarities. I like that Ferrari is Ferrari. I love the cockpit of the Huracan better, but almost overwhelmed by all of the digital tech. I love the analog rev counter in the 488. Also may be a bit bothered that every young “you tuber” always buys my car.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is no right or wrong here. I have a 488. One of my best buds just got a huracan. I love he 488- he loves the huracan. Both cars as described above have their great features. Here is the big difference to me however- visibility. I’m 6’4” I barely fit in a Huracan and the visibility for in in the lambo is terrible. This is fine if you take it out for a joy ride once- you deal with it. Extended use I could not do. I’d love to get a performante- but I can’t fit comfortable inside the darn thing. 488- you can easily daily drive it- it’s smooth it’s fast it’s comfortabel. Lambo- raw, fast, “snug” inside- which can be good or bad as the cockpit really hugs you. But the car is just not an option for me due to its size.
A lot of good points stated above I prefer naturally aspirated cars however I prefer the Ferrari brand. If I had to go turbo I would try to get my hands on a 720s looks beautiful and it's the fastest thing on the road. Or I would try to get the performante fast as hell naturally aspirated nice interior I like their digital gauge cluster. But getting back to your original question if it was between either the 488 or the huracan I would go with the 488. I prefer the styling the interior and the brand. The only negatives in my book is the turbo, the sound and the lower rpm.
If you’ve not driven a 488, you should. The main difference between the Huracan and 488 is driving feel. The Lambo feels heavier, less nimble and more claustrophobic. But that’s my subjective opinion, and the performance is actually quite close. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
You should drive both and then decide. Some of my happiest days of sports car ownership were having the 360 and Diablo. Both were very different but fantastic to drive. I tried to find my Diablo but it was exported to Denmark. I still admire Lamborghini cars and have not given up the thought of another one. If you were to ask to decide between the Performante and 488, that could be a different story.
Yes you should switch to a 488GTB from a Huracan. I considered both cars, my brother in law has a Huracan but I prefer the 488GTB!
FWIW the 488 spider sounds surprisingly good with the top down. Chris Harris wasnt too far off in his review.
I would approach it this way. Pretend the 488 does not exist. Does the Huracan still feel boring? If yes, I would get the 488. If no, I would hold onto the Huracan for at least a year. Reason being is there are likely going to be some features of the Huracan that you will miss when making the switch. You should spend time to enjoy both as much as you can!
I own a 2017 Huracan spyder 610-4, and a 2017 488 spyder. If I had to choose, it would be the Ferrari. Driver engagement and feel of the Ferrari are much better, even though the Lambo may be a tad faster.
Hmmm, I would stop to think about your decision, enjoy your Lamborghini, what a great car! Let's be honest, thanks to Audi, this car has become absolutely top, a car at eye level of its competitors. With the V10 NA-engine and its wedge shape design this car has clear differentiators. I guess we read it in the answers, what is good for one person is the opposite for the other. Once a decision is made you should just enjoy it. Otherwise, you always run after what you do not have (the people who always have a half empty glass in front of them). That's what I call "lost lifetime". However, an interesting thread. Ok, the 488 is substantially faster (the Lambo only sounds faster) and has no farming genes... (I'm just kidding)
Different strokes for different folks but for me it would be 488 all day long. Hurracan looks unattractive from the rear ( a general conclusion I've found) plus I just don't like the interior and poor rear visibility - ergonomics aren't great for me either. Huracan's strong suit is likely the NA engine although there is just way too much backfiring silliness going on which works against the base engine sound.
Redcaruser - This is great advice, thank you. So I think I have decided I will be getting the 488 GTB, but will wait for the 19 and enjoy the Huracan this summer. This way I get a bit more time with the car and really get to enjoy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
