    Hey Everyone,
I have a question to bounce off of you. How many of you buy Baldwin oil filters for your 308/Mondial locally, and how many mail order? I have called Baldwin and while they will not let me become a dealer for such a small volume, they will sell me filters through a local dealer at a decent discount if I buy a few cases at a time. I was thinking about selling the B253 on my website to make it easy for 308 owners anywhere to be able to order a Baldwin filter without having to find one locally. There isn't much money in it, so I'm not really sure it's worth the effort. So I thought I would get a feel for the interest level before I bother. Thoughts?

What do you suspect the price would be? Your competition is priced at about $12/filter + shipping.

I had bought a case and sold 1/2 of it on ebay to cover my cost.

I had a great price too. Better then some guy that sells 4 for $79 plus $20 for shipping.

It took a long time to sell 6 of them.

So that was it with me, I wont bother with it again.

PS If you have "free" time come by and help me paint my house.:)

My cost is $11.67 cdn each no shipping and I think they're a great filter, probably better than the UFI.

Last time I bought one it was about $10 locally. The rep from Baldwin said he could "probably" get me a 25% discount if I bought "a couple cases at a time". So I'm not going to be able beat any prices. This was really an idea for filling a need. I saw the guy on eBay ripping people off and I thought maybe there is a market, but there is not enough money in it to be worth the effort unless you rip people off!! Sounds like there are already plenty of sources for these on-line. I get mine at a local truck supply place.

Thanks for the input, I don't think I'm going to bother!

I use a Fram part number 2804-1 for my oil filter. So I'm not likely to mail order oil filters. The K&N air filter is number E 2930, I think. I got the number off the internet, so I don't really trust it to be right. Check it before you buy it.

I'm paying $10.50-$11.50 including shipping. If you can do it in that range, I'd rather buy them from you. I usually buy 6 at a time for convenience.

my local Fleet Pride heavy truck store sells Baldwin stuff for big trucks and buses. i have been buying the 308 filters for $9.00 each x 6 per case since i first got a 308.

i think its a great idea to sell them on the website to give folks a trusted place to get them if they cannot get them locally.

also, i would not use Fram filters on a ferrari as they have been proven to fail under the high cold pressures these cars can generate. i dont know if the Fram has a flapper and stand pipe like the Baldwin does, but i love the way a Baldwin wont drip any oil during a oil change.

    to each his own.

Bob, Fram is garbage! Please, no Fram filters on your 308!

Gang, there is no way I'm going to undertake this. The best I can get the filters for is going to be around $7 with a volume "quasi-distributor" price break and shipping them to people at $11, means there isn't even a penny in it for me. Forgetaboudit!

    Thanks for the feedback.

Mike, please post where you buy them for $11 shipped! We'll all use that place instead!

UFI's had an issue some years back with blowing out under the o-rind seal and at best making a giant mess, but if any engines were destroyed I dont recall. No one at UFI wanted to take responsibility for it, they kept blaming techs and owners saying they wernt installed properly, and out of frustration many swiched to Baldwins over it and never looked back. UFI finally upgraded the filter without admitting anything was wrong with the old version. Baldwin is at least as good as the upgraded UFI AFAIK, or perhaps even better. Certainly its more affordable.

The Frams are crap, not the filter they were 10 years ago, and they dont have the stand pipe so the oil runs down out of the filter after shutdown and prolongs zero oil pressure on startup.

The best price I could get on Baldwin oil filter is about $6.00 (I think $5.68 to be exact) not including shipping, but he won't sell to just anyone...sorry

No one has done a comprehensive test. A couple folks cut them open and compared, and internally they looked to be of similar quality.

In quantity 6, it is $64 total shipped (equates to $10.66 each), but they don't charge much of a premium even if you buy less than 6 at a time. You won't find the B253 on their website, but they DO sell them for sure -- I ordered them by phone. www.cfsco.net
