Hi all - first post for me! I have a 08 F430 Spider in Rosso corsa with tan. It has factory silver alloys which have a small amount of kerb rash. Instead of repairing I am contemplating painting the wheels a medium grey matte finish (similar to F430 Scud spec). Has anyone done this to a Rosso corsa car? If so can you load up images? Tempted to make the change as I feel the silver alloys date the car, but will grey look right with the classic red / tan combo? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Paint them? No! Powder coat? Now we’re talking! But you’ll want to get thatvdone by a shop that specializes in wheel repair because you don’t want to put the effort into messed up wheels… Kevin
Personally, I think your wheels look great. I would not go through the trouble to make them a bit less shiny. I WOULD go for the 6th wheels in the link above - the Scuderia - Challengi-ish style ones in a brushed finish.
The F430 wheels in silver age the car in my opinion. Grigio Corsa Met is the grey you want, looks very nice, updates the car and suits a lot of colours on the F430
I don't think the classic silver could ever age out. It's just a great compliment and has a good contrast. Example below on a more modern car. Darker grey below for comparison. Both obviously look fantastic on the 812 but the darker you go, the more the wheel detail seems to fade away. As much as I get compliments on the darker grey of my current wheels, my next set will be a lighter factory silver. Couple that with some yellow calipers and it's just perfection. Anyways, that's all subjective. I can understand the want to change things up a bit from time to time if you're tired of looking at the same setup. Also, welcome to the board! The darker the wheel, the more difficult it is to show the details in photos, but look much better in the metal.
Thanks - this looks great! About the perfect amount of grey. Anything darker would clash with the elegance of the light interior
Me too... I have a spare set of gunmetal grey (which looks black in this pic) and generally keep the original ball-polished wheels on the car. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
For pictures yes I will agree, pictures do black wheels no justice at all, but when you see them in the metal, on the right car and colour they look superb and you see the detail.
Some colors go well with black wheels... I just think Red is not dark enough or light enough. Red looks amazing with silver or gold wheels.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
